POLICY
Official press releases on behalf of the City may be authorized by the Mayor or City
Manager or in the absence of the City Manager, the Acting City Manager. Press releases
on behalf of the Redevelopment Agency may be authorized by the Chairman or
Executive Director or in the absence of the Executive Director, the Acting Executive
Director.
The City Treasurer may issue a press release only with approval of the Mayor and in
accordance with this Policy No. 400-6.
Official press releases on behalf of the City shall be prepared in cooperation with the
City’s Information/Communications Manager.
This policy shall not be construed as limiting the public expression of opinions by elected
and/or appointed officials.
When contacted by the media, City Staff shall whenever possible consult with the City
Manager and/or City Information/Communications Manager before making any
comment. All City Staff are reminded to respect public positions taken and opinions
expressed by elected officials.
