POLICY
Personal Car
Councilmembers and elected and appointed officials are encouraged to use their personal
vehicle on City business and submit for reimbursement in accordance with the provisions
of Policy No. 300-3. When using a personal vehicle on City business, Councilmembers
are responsible for carrying adequate insurance.
Councilmembers are not permitted to use a City gas credit card to purchase fuel for their
personal car.
Motor Pool Vehicle -- General Use
When traveling by car on City business, Councilmembers may use a City-owned vehicle
if available. The City’s designated “staff pool vehicle” may be reserved by contacting
the City Manager’s office.
Councilmembers are responsible for properly maintaining and securing the staff pool
vehicle while it is in their possession. Councilmembers are to report any problems or
malfunctions immediately upon returning the vehicle, even if the problem was corrected.
A City gas credit card should be used when purchasing fuel for the staff pool vehicle.
Gas credit cards may be checked out from the Administrative Services Department. Gas
credit cards and receipts must be returned immediately to the Administrative Services
Department upon the employee’s return to the office.
City officials shall wear seatbelts at all times during the operation of City vehicles and
shall operate such vehicles in accordance with all applicable state and local laws. At no
time may any Councilmember or elected of appointed city official operate any City
vehicle impaired. If involved in an accident, driver shall submit to a BAC and/or other
appropriate tests as soon as possible. Operation of a City vehicle in an impaired state
shall, in the case of appointed officials be cause for immediate dismissal from said post,
and in the case of elected officials shall be cause for an official and public censure of said
driver.
