BACKGROUND
City officials should be provided identification to further public service in their official
capacity. Such identification and City letterhead should be limited to official use.
PURPOSE
To establish guidelines for the use of identification cards, badges and City letterhead.
POLICY
Every Councilmember and elected and appointed officials shall be issued a City
Identification Card and a Name Badge as identification for City-related business and
social functions.
City Business Cards shall be made available to all Councilmembers, the City Treasurer
and appointed Commissioners. These cards are intended for use strictly in relationship to
their position with the City.
City Letterhead is strictly for use in City related Correspondence generated by City staff
and/or City Council. Personal use of City letterhead is strictly prohibited and it is not
appropriate to provide blank stationery to elected officials for their personal use.
If a Councilmember uses letterhead to correspond on an issue of City business that has
not been before the entire City Council for consideration, the letter must clearly state that
its contents are the opinion of the individual Councilmember and may not necessarily
reflect the position of the City Council as a whole.
A Councilmember shall not use City badges, identification cards, business cards or
letterhead for personal or financial gain, for obtaining privileges not otherwise available
to a Councilmember, or for soliciting political contributions.
