A RESOLUTION OF THE CTTY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LAKE ELSINORE,
SL7PPORTING LAKE F.LSINORE UN~'I'IED
SCHOOL DISTRICT'5 MEASURE L PROPOSAL.
WHEREAS, since 1990, enrollment in the Lake Elsinore
Unified School District has increased by over 4,000 students and in the ne~
four years that number will grow to over 18,000 students. As a
consequence, the enrollment continues to exceed the capacity of existing
school facilities in the district; and
WHEREAS, in the early 1990's, the Lake Elsinore Unified
School District applied for state funding on three proposed projects, being
Phase II of Temescal Canyon High School, the Brown Middle School and
the Collier Elementary School. The State agreed to fund 50% of the
construction costs on Temescal Canyon, 100% of the Brown Middle School
costs and 100% of the Collier Elementary School costs. Ultimately 5tate
funds were available for the Brown Middle School, but not the other two
projects; and
WHEREAS, with the passage of the State School Construction
Bond Measure, Proposition 203 on March 26, 1996, the 5tate has
committed to provide the funds for construction of Collier Elementary
School and 50% of the funding for Phase II of Temescal Canyon High
School; only if the District can raise the other 50%; and
WHEREAS, on June 4, 1996, the Lake Elsinore Unified 5chool
District will ask local residents for the 50% funds necessary to match the
State's 50% funding to complete Temescal Canyon High School. The

District will also ask local residents for funds to reconstruct Elsinore
Middle School, which is 85 years old.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED, that the Lake
Elsinore City Council does hereby. express its support of Measure L and
encourages public support of the measure through their votes on June 4,
1996.

1996, upon the following vote:
