Paint Accessory Materials: Linseed oil, shellac, turpentine and other materials not specifically indicated herein but required to achieve the finishes specified of high quality and approved manufacturer. Applicator shall examine areas aru conditions under which painting work is to be applied and notify contractor in writing of conditions uatrimental to proper and timely completion of work. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.02 PREPARATION A. Clean and prepare surfaces for painting to manufacturers instructions for substrate to be painted. 3.03 APPLICATIONS A. Apply each coat at proper consistency. B. Each coat of paint is to be slightly darker than preceding coat unless otherwise approved by Wal -Mart Construction Manager. Sand lightly between coats ff necessary to achieve required finish. C. Minimum Coating Thickness: Apply materials at not less than the manufacturer's recommended spreading rate. Provide a total dry film thickness of the entire system as recommended by the manufacturer. G. Block Fillers: Apply block fillers to concrete masonry units at a ra!e to ensure complete coverage wi!h pores filled. H. Prime Coats: Before application of finish coats, apply a prime coat of material as recommended by the manufacturer to material that is required to be painted or finished and has not been prime coated by others. Recoat primed and sealed surfaces where evidence of suction spots or unsealed areas in first coat appears, to assure a linish coat with no burn through or other defects due to insufficient sealing. 1. Pigmented (Opaque) Finishes: Completely cover to provide an opaque, smooth surface of uniform finish, color, appearance, and coverage. Cloudiness, spotting, laps, brush marks, runs, sags, or other surface imperfections will no! be acceptable. I. Transparent (Clear) Finishes: Use multiple coats to produce a glass - smooth surface film of even luster. Provide a finish free of laps, cloudiness, color irregularity, brush marks, runs, sags, orange peel, nail holes or other surface imperfections. J. Compler.:d Work: Match approved samples for color, texture, and coverage. Remove, refinish, or repaint work not in compliance with specified requirements. 3.04 MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT A. Replace identification markings on mechanical or electrical equipment when painted over or spattered. B. Paint exposed conduit and electrical equipment occurring in finished areas where it will be exposed to the public. Color and texture to match adjacent surfaces. C. Paint both sides and edges of plywood backboards for electrical equipment before ir.stalling backboards and mounting equipment on them. D. Prepaint Gas piping prior to installation. 3.05 CLEANING A. As work proceeds and upon completion, promptly remove paint where spilled, splashed, or shattered. During progress of work keep premises free from any unnecessary accumulation of tools, equipment, surplus materials, and debris. B. Upon completion of work leave premises neat and clean. 3.06 PROTECTION A. Protect other surfaces from paint and damage. Repair damage as a result of inadequate or unsuitable prota lion. 3.07 PAINTING AND FINISHING SCHEDULE (EXTERIOR) Paint Schedule provides for minimum two -coat application. Receive, handle, and store materials to prevent damage. After receipt, inspect all wallcovering to determine condition. 1. Allow 28 -30 days for curing of concrete /mortar. B. Examination: 1. I xamAe substrate to which finely textured coating is to be applied. Fill holes in excess of 3/8 inch. D. Beginning of application means acceptance of substrate. 3.02 APPLICATION A. General: 1. Begin system application at rear of building and work toward front. Apply material at a rate recommended by manufacturer. b. Finish material so that brush and roller strokes are in one direction. B. Application (Thorn System Products) Cementitious Block filler: 1. Dampen wall prior to and during application. Change of color of masonry unit should be noted. Do not soak wall excessively or allow water to accumulate on the surface. 2. Apply brush, plaster type or airless sprayer coat of Cementitious Block Filler to the surface of flat, split- faced, rock -faced or fluted masonry units. One unit of cementitiou;; block filler (5 -6 gals) will cover 600 -750 sq If of flat faced CIV; 350 -500 sq It of split- faced, rock faced and fluted CMU. Using plaster type sprayer, spray -apply at 35 -40 PSI air pressure at spray nozzle, using a 3116" or 1/4" spray orifice. 3. Using a wet clean soft nylon bristled brush or broom, work the fill coat in a horizontal direction to fill pores. Lay oft fill coat in a vertical direction. Do not allow brush or broom to become loaded with material. Backroll surf..ce with 3/4" nap roller using downward finish strokes to remove any brush strokes. Do not let material sot or harden before backroliing. 4. Finish from breakpoint to breakpoint. Do rat stop in middle of wall. 5. If hot, dry and windy conditions exist, let fill coat set for 24 hours, cure by fog spraying on second day if conditions are hot dry or windy. 6. Decorative Acrylic Coating: a.
