WA'lRER:Water shall be clean, free from oil, aCid,alkali or vegetable matter.

MORTAR: Should there not be enough mortar to completely fill the voids in
the concret e, the defici eney shall be remedi ed by redu cing the port ion 0 f
gravel or broken eton. used. in the mixture and not by adding a greater
portion of sand or stong screenings.
MEASURING ,:vIATEIUALS: The sand or stone screenings, and the gravel or broken
stone shall be lliea&ured in wheelbarrows which,whem struck with a straight
edge re~;ting upon the sides shall have the capacity necessary to accurate-
ly maintain the above proportions. Every wheelbarrow load of material used
must be struck with a straight ed.ge as above 6pecifi€d~Said material shall
be meaS'ured loose,without shaking or compacting.
Cement in sacks as above speci fi ed shall be dumped directly
into the mixer or upon the other material previously measured upon a plat~
form.
The water necessary for every batch shall be accurately meas-
ured witb an apparatus which will prevent the use of more water than above
specified. No mixer shall be used which is not provided with an accurate
water measuring device or apparatus~
