MASONRY GENERAL NOTES & MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
1) No deviations from these details are allowed unless specifically approved in writing
by this Engineer before proceeding with the work. Sufficient time shall also be allowed
for the review, investigation and approval by the Building Department having
jurisdiction for such changes.
2) It is the Responsibility of the Owner, Contractor(s), Architect and/or Draftspersons to
ensure that the minimum requirements of the Soils/Foundation Report (if any) are
incorporated into these details. Any discrepancy between these details and the
Soils/Foundation Report are to be brought to the attention of this Engineer for
clarification before proceeding with, the work.
3) Building Code: Uniform Building Code, ICBO, 1997 Edition (UNO)
4) Concrete: (No special inspection required UNO) F'c = 2,500 psi (@ 28 Days).
Maximum slump: 3-4 inches (+/- 1 inch)
5) Concrete Block, Masonry: (no special inspection required--UNO)
Block/Brick: fm = 1,500 psi, Grade N,-(n = 25.8)
Note: "Plastic" and "masonry" cements are not allowed per 97 UBC
Sections 2106.1.12.3.5 & 2106.1.12.4.
Grout: 2,000 psi, Maximum slump: 9 inches (+/- 1 inch) Note: Grout must
be "mechanically" vibrated. Any "manually" vibrated grout is
unacceptable and the masonry construction may be removed
and replaced at the Masonry Contractor's cost. (No exceptions)
Mortar: Type M, 2,500 psi (Note: Mortar may extend a maximum of 1/2"
into cell cavity)
6) Reinforcing Steel: ASTM A615, Grade 40 for #4 & #5 rebar, Grade 60 for #6 & larger-
rebar.
7) All block cells are to be cleaned out of all loose debris before placing the grout. No
excess grout, mortar or debris of any kind may be "dumped" behind the wall as
back fill. Soils removed from the footing excavations may be used as"backfill
material only if approved by the Soils/Geotechnical Engineer in writing (please
see the details for the "non expansive" back fill and drain requirements). All
such excess materials and soils shall be removed from the site.
8) All footings are to be placed the minimum embedment as shown on the details
into either 1) undisturbed native soils or 2) engineered compacted fill.
