LABORATORY ANALYSES
The soil samples collected from the above work were then taken underthecustodyofNachantEnvironmentalInc. to Geotest of Long Beach, California, for laboratory analyses. Samples 1, 3 and 5 were sub- jected to modified EPA Test Method 8015 to determine the nonhalo- genated volatile organic content. Sample 7, taken below the waste oiltank, was subjected to tests to determine total petroleum hydrocarboncontentbyEPATestMethod418.1 and total lead content. A copy ofthelaboratoryresultsareattachedforyourinspection.
RESULTS
The results of the laboratory testing referenced above indicate that, at locations 5 and 7, son.; level of contamination was identified. TheanalysesofSample5indicatedthenonhalogenatedvolatileorganiccontenttobe341.4 parts per million (ppm). The analyses of Sam- ple 7 indicated the total petroleum content to be 90.6 ppm and thetotalleadcontenttobe8ppm. Samples 1 and 3 indicated no con- tamination present.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the chemical analyses from samples taken during the tankremoval, it has been determined that soil contamination is present atthenortheastcornerofthethree -tank cluster at sample locationNo. 5. In addition, some low levels of contamination may be presentdirectlybeneaththewasteoiltank. In all cases, except soilSample5takenfromthenortheastcornerofthethree -tank cluster, contamination indications were below designated action levels.
Information from borings done at this site (May, 1987) indicate thatfrom17to21feetbelowthegroundsurface, dense bedrock materialwasencountered. In addition, no groundwater was encounteredwithintheboringsperformedatthissite.
Considering the information provided above and the subsurface eval- uation performed by Pioneer Consultants (May, 1987), it is our opin-
ion that the contamination above action levels identified at Sample 5 isasmallandibolatedlocationanddoesnotrepresentasignificantsourceofcontamination. Furthermore the contamination identified inSample7belowthewasteoilrankisbelowactionlevels, and was not
encountered in an angle boring performed directly below this tankduringtheMay1987study. It would be our recommendation, basedthat
necessary. Itti1sth000ed

Fifteen (15) soil samples were analyzed for hydrocarbon content by
a modified EPA method 8015 with the results reported in the
following table.
Two (2) samples were analyzed by EPA method 8020 for benzene,
toluene, and xylenes with the results reported on the enclosed
analysis forms.
Two (2) samples were also analyzed for benzene, toluene, and
