I appreciate the work you and Councilmember Magee are doing on the special events committee, and I am encouraged by your proactive approach to enhancing our community events. As someone who has organized various events in collaboration with the city over the past decade, I have experienced both the smooth execution of some events and the significant challenges that others have posed. While my long-standing relationships with city staff have often facilitated the process, there remain many hurdles that we can overcome together. I am genuinely excited about the city's direction regarding community events. With my extensive experience, I have observed numerous issues and opportunities that could be addressed through a more structured oversight mechanism, similar to Measure Z. Establishing a dedicated events committee would ensure that our tax dollars are used efficiently and transparently, even if the primary goal isn't always revenue generation. Moreover, having clear expectations and guidelines from the council is crucial. Recent events have exposed vulnerabilities that could lead to potential legal challenges. While I won't go into specifics here, I am more than willing to provide detailed observations and suggestions either in writing or in person. Furthermore, we have incredible partners within our city, such as myself, the Storm, the Chamber of Commerce, various non-profits, and other local entities. These partners, who are deeply invested in our community and employ residents locally, can play a pivotal role in ensuring that our events are successful and that our sales tax dollars and Measure Z funds remain within the community. I look forward to collaborating with you and the committee to enhance the quality and safety of our events while fostering a thriving and engaged community. Thank you for considering my thoughts. I am confident that with your leadership and support, we can continue to elevate our community events to new heights. I wanted to share our current committee appointment list with you. At present, Councilmember Magee and I are on the special events committee, giving us a head start on its formation. The procedural oversight for vetting and supporting events is still a work in progress. Your timing is perfect, as I recently had a similar conversation with the CSD department. I will discuss your email with my colleague as we continue this discussion. To ensure compliance with the Brown Act, I have only copied Councilmember Magee and the City Managers, allowing me to speak freely while reviewing this matter. Feel free to let me know if there are any specific adjustments to procedure or oversight you'd suggest. https://www.lake-elsinore.org/DocumentCenter/View/549/Mayors- Appointment-List-PDF Thank you, Natasha Natasha Johnson City of Lake Elsinore 951-218-1459 On Jul 22, 2024, at 10:02 PM, Jason Devor <jason@ihitprint.com> wrote: Dear Members of the City Council, Happy Monday! I am writing to propose the formation of an events committee to oversee the increasing number of private and public events in our community. This growth in events is a wonderful development, reflecting our vibrant and active community. However, it has also highlighted the need for more structured oversight to ensure efficiency and effective use of our tax dollars. An events committee could play a vital role in overseeing event procedures, managing budgets, and gathering post-event feedback. This structure would not only enhance the quality and organization of events but also ensure that resources are allocated responsibly and transparently. I believe this committee will help us maintain and even elevate the standards of our events, providing consistent and positive experiences for our residents and visitors. Your support in this initiative would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for considering this proposal. I am confident that with your leadership, we can continue to foster an engaged and thriving community. Sincerely, Jason Devor -- Jason Devor O:(951)609-2555 Jason@iHitPrint.com www.iHitPrint.com
