It wasn’t a good call. Early on this branding effort we were asked to give a stakeholders list and I gave them the following: CM Johnson Mayor Manos CM Simpson Kim Cousins myself From this group, only Jason, Mayor and myself were contacted and reached for an interview. The EDC decided to move forward without the other interviews (which was not conveyed to me, Jason or Kathryn in any form). Then, we had a strategy meeting where we discussed direction (pros, cons, the valley, basically a SWAT analysis). From this we all met as the EDC EconDev folks again, and they were trying to pin point the overall strategy- but it wasn’t the actual tagline or direction (related to Location) but buzz words to describe the region. We have ALWAYS said that it would be around job creation when we started this as a reminder. They had a meeting when I was on vacation and I was given the slidedeck upon my return, and after going through I had serious concerns that were expressed to Connie. 1. Title of Temecula Valley and not including Greater into it (heard from our Chamber o this issue and Wildomar is on the same page) 2. Tagline (one direction surrounding location for all three taglines) We are missing two other directions. a. Room to Bloom b. More than meets the map c. Space to find your place I set up a call with Connie to address my concerns that we are moving to fast and combining subjective pieces without fine tuning this process. For instance, most branding initiatives we follow this order to not interject subjectivity: Tagline development Logo Development (black and white) Color and design Website and materials based on tagline and logo We have in this process combined tagline/logo/design and color in one swoop. I was told that I needed to hear their pitch and why. But If I am having concerns over this, it isn’t clear from this message (tagline) what our region is know for. How do these not also speak to Imperial Couty- they have room too?!!) I have pushed back on the Room to Bloom due to Elsinore’s sensitivity with it. I expected sometype of call to discuss these concerns but in stead a meeting was set up today to meet with all the cities. I had a feeling they were discounting my concerns of: 1. Not interviewing all my stakeholders 2. Tagline 3. Not being given more than one direction to choose from 4. Name concerns So I emailed as a courtesy my counterparts in EconDev, and both the County responded (they are neutral but not in love with it), and Wildomar that they have concerns with timing of the meetings and moving forward without her, tagline concerns, and doesn’t care for any of it). Today we had the call, and I brought these up since I felt no one was listening and I aired it to do the right thing. What I got was Deana (Connies assistant) spanking me today that people need to answer calls and emails to meet (my stakeholders) and be on the same page if they want to be involved in the process. I would like my entire Ad-hoc to be interviewed on their thoughts first before moving forward- and I feel that it is only fair. In this meeting they also decided to move forward with #2 Room to Bloom, even though they were giving clear concerns. At the end of the call it was decided to bring the city manager and economic development directors together to discuss the branding with the consultant in the room. They are now asking for dates to hold that meeting based off todays meeting. I am hoping to get more direction from this group before then but wanted you to know what was occurring, if not already, and where we are in this process… I am happy to set up a ad-hoc to discuss further or what ever you feel is fitting… I represent you – so please let me know… G Extreme-LE Yours, Gina M.
