Subject: Purchase of One (1) Mini Skid Steer Trencher
Recommendation
Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a Purchase Order with RDO Equipment Co.
for one (1) New 2022 Vermeer Mini Skid Steer S925TX Trencher in the amount of $51,706.25
(tax included).
Background
Routine and emergency work frequently result in the need to rent essential equipment to keep up
with the work demand. During emergency conditions equipment rentals are not always available
and can take up to two days for delivery to the job site. Equipment availability is very critical in the
support of Public Works maintenance staff during field operations.
The purchase of the Mini Skid Steer Vermeer S925TX Trencher will be the City’s first purchase
of this type of machinery. The Mini Skid Steer Vermeer S925TX Trencher is a widely versatile
piece of equipment. The types of attachments range from that will be beneficial to both streets
and parks division. These attachments range from trencher, auger, stump grinder, sweepers, jack
hammer, landscape rake, and a wide variety of buckets and scrappers for a wide range of duties.
Also, due to its “mini” size, the Vermeer Skid Steer will be able to be utilized in tighter areas where
other equipment simply will not fit.

Discussion
The Mini Skid Steer Vermeer will improve the City’s ability to deliver greater impacting
maintenance services for both routine scheduled maintenance and emergency maintenance. This
machine will have all the features and capabilities needed to perform at a higher operational
tempo utilizing internal resources.
RDO Equipment Co. machinery and equipment have been competitively bid and priced on
Sourcewell, Contract Number 031721-VRM, with an expiration date of 5/7/2025. Sourcewell, was
created by state law as a service cooperative to provide programs and services to members in
education and government. Sourcewell was established with the statutory purpose to assist
members in meeting specific needs which are more efficiently delivered cooperatively than by an
entity individually. Sourcewell is authorized to establish competitively awarded cooperative
purchasing contracts on behalf of itself and its member agencies. Sourcewell follows the
competitive contracting law process to solicit, evaluate, and award cooperative purchasing
contracts for goods and services. Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contracts are made
available through the joint exercise of powers law to member agencies. Member agencies include
all eligible government, education, and non-profit agencies nationwide and in Canada.
Fiscal Impact
Funds are available in the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Internal Service Fund Annual Operating Budget.
