Honorable Councilmembers:
I'm writing in support of your resolution to oppose SB 54.
SB 54 puts our families, children and communities at risk,by preventing local law
enforcement agencies from working with the federal government.
Despite many amendments to the bill,there is a real possibility SB 54 could still lead to
dangerous individuals such as repeat drunk drivers, criminal gang members and those
who assault peace officers being let out on the streets when they should have been
deported instead.
This is unacceptable.
Our peace officers should be able to utilize all resources available to them to keep our
communities safe. I stand in support of your decision.
Additionally, since representing this city in Sacramento for the past five years, I can tell
you I have received hundreds and hundreds of letters regarding the immigration policies
of this state, and specifically, SB 54.. While I sat on this city council, we as a city faced
immigration issues that led to meetings with immigration officials.
Please stand with other jurisdictions and oppose this law.
