National Preparedness Month
Proclaim that the month of September 2022 as “National Preparedness Month” in the City of Lake
Elsinore.

National Preparedness Month
WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month, occurring annually in September,
creates an important opportunity for every resident of the City of Lake Elsinore to
prepare their homes, businesses, and communities for any type of emergency, including
natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks;
WHEREAS, investing in the preparedness of ourselves, our families, businesses,
and communities can reduce fatalities and economic devastation in our communities
and in our nation;
WHEREAS, injury and loss of life is avoidable when individuals take
responsibility for preparing their families and their communities. However, the
California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) estimates that 43% of Californians are
prepared for disaster;
WHEREAS, the County of Riverside Emergency Management Department,
through programs such as its RivCoReady campaign, the Federal Emergency
Management Agency’s Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps, the California Office of
Emergency Services Listos California Campaign and other federal, state, local, tribal,
territorial, private, and volunteer agencies are working to increase public activities in
preparing for emergencies and to educate individuals on how to take action;
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has
announced the 2022 National Preparedness Month theme of “A Lasting Legacy”. The
life you’ve built is worth protecting. Prepare for disasters to create a lasting legacy for
you and your family; and
WHEREAS, all resident of the City of Lake Elsinore are encouraged to prepare
an emergency communication plan, participate in citizen preparedness activities, and
visit the County’s preparedness campaign’s website at RivCoReady.org for important
preparedness tips and information.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the
City of Lake Elsinore, California, does hereby
proclaim the month of September 2022 to be “National
Preparedness Month” in the City of Lake Elsinore and
call on all government agencies, private
organizations, residents, and business owners to
develop their own emergency preparedness plan, and
work together toward creating a more prepared
society.
