Background and Discussion The City of Lake Elsinore has historically purchased and owned all fleet vehicles and equipment. The City maintains a fleet of vehicles and equipment for use by various City departments, which include light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles. The City owns 61 light and medium duty vehicles; on average, these vehicles are ten years old. The City also reviews its vehicle replacement needs typically twice yearly, once during budget preparation and again as the mid-year budget approaches. During the mid-year budget review, staff also considers whether there are opportunities to re-task vehicles to utilize their best value. The purchase of the 2023 Chevrolet K3500 crew cab single rear wheel long bed will be utilized by the Police Department for the use of; road blocks, emergency response, debris removal, carrying of larger cargo or high weight items, contraban, towing trailers, traffic barriers and cones. Discussion During the mid-years vehicle analysis, staff requested authorization to purchase the following vehicles: 1. Three (3) 2023 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 4x4 Crew Cab 2. One (1) 2023 Chevrolet Silverado K3500 Crew Cab Single Acquisition of City Fleet Vehicle August 23, 2022 Page 2 On approval of the FY22-23 budget, staff researched the purchase of this vehicle from local dealerships and government vehicle purchase contracts. Pricing is comparable to the nationally solicited contracts, competitively bid and awarded on behalf of National Joint Powers Authorities (NJPA). In addition, Anderson Chevrolet is based in the City and offers special government pricing on their vehicles. Fiscal Impact The funding is available in the Internal Service Fund for Fiscal Year 2022-2023.
