q ? FAQS: PROPOSED SCHOOL BOUNDARY REALIGNMENT PAGE 1 OF 2
Lake Elsinore Unified School District revl/7/15
n01 nnt`
To maximize instructional opportunities for all students, new school attendance
boundaries are being proposed in 2015-2016. This follows an intensive year-long
review by an ad hoc stakeholders group known as the Attendance Boundary
Committee (ABC). The ABC committee has considered population growth,
balancing existing capacity with demand, and investing in classroom technology in
its recommendations to realign some, but not all, elementary, K8, and middle
school attendance boundaries. Below are questions and answers about the
proposed boundary changes, impacts, timelines, and informational resources.
1. Will the proposed boundary changes affect all LEUSD schools?
A: No,several district schools will keep their existing boundaries. For example,Elsinore High
School,Lakeside High School and Temescal Canyon High School boundaries are unchanged.
Elementary schools keeping their existing boundaries include: Cottonwood Canyon,Earl
Warren,Elsinore Elementary,and Tuscany Hills.
2. When will changes in school boundaries take effect?
A: Adjusting school boundaries is subject to approval by the Governing Board. These boundary
recommendations may be presented for adoption as early as the March 12 2015 Board
meeting. If approved, the new boundaries would take effect during the 2015-16 school year.
3. Where can I view or examine the proposed boundaries for my child's school?
A: The district Web site includes a school site locator"wbg Wtoul to input a residential
address in order to find out which LEUSD schools would serve a student household under
the proposed boundaries. The locator tool demonstrates proposed boundaries, but the final
school boundaries and implementation timelines are subject to Board action.A map of the
proposed school attendance boundaries is also available online at www.leusd.kl2.ca.us.
4. If our current school boundaries change, will my child have to change schools,as a result?
A: No,flexible guidelines will be in place to enable a child to continue at their current school.
The goal is to enable students to finish through the school grade levels at their current
assigned school to minimize the impacts midway through their K-5,or 6-8 experience.
S. Will the public have a say in the proposed attendance boundaries?
A: Yes,public involvement in the proposed Attendance Boundaries began with the creation of
a community and district stakeholder-led boundary committee (Attendance Boundary
Committee),and will continue through adoption of a final school boundary plan by the
Governing Board on March 12,2015,6:00 p.m.,in the Board Room, open to the public.

Public Town Hall boundary meetings are being held in the following convenient locations:
• Wed.,Jan. 14,2015 Lakeland Village K8, 18730 Grand Ave., 6:00 p.m.
• Thurs.,Jan. 15, 2015 William Collier ES,20150 Mayhall Dr., Wildomar, 6:00 p.m.
• Wed.,Jan.21,2015 Rice Canyon ES,29535 Westwind Dr.,Lake Elsinore, 6:00 p.m.
• Tues.,Jan. 27,2015 Ronald Reagan ES,35445 Porras Rd., Wildomar, 6:00 p.m.
6. What will happen to the proposed attendance boundaries as new schools are built?
A: In the future, the Alberhill and Wasson Canyon areas could require new elementary schools,
depending on growth and other factors. The proposed attendance boundaries for these
future schools exist as an overlay to the proposed boundaries until such time as needed.
7. How will school boundary changes affect my child's eligibility for transportation service?
A: Eligibility to ride the bus to a new home school would be determined according to existing
transportation policies, which are unchanged. One of the advantages of the proposed
boundaries is to promote neighborhood schools by eliminating non-contiguous boundaries,
thereby enabling students to attend schools that are closer to home.
8. Will the procedure for requesting a school transfer within the district change as a result?
A: No,the existing intra-district transfer process for requesting a school other than the
assigned or home school is unchanged;however, some students who are presently on an
intra-district transfer may find that their new school boundary is the school they now
attend on an intra-district transfer.Guidelines and deadlines for Open Enrollment, and
requesting an intra-district transfer, are established in Board policy.
9. Does this boundary proposal include transitioning some K-5 schools to K-6 over time?
A: Yes,in order to balance future student enrollment at the middle school level, proposed
boundaries include assumptions and recommendations for transitioning several, but not all,
elementary K-5 schools to K-6 over the next few years.Future K-6 sites include Rice Canyon,
Withrow,Machado,Wildomar,William Collier,Ronald Reagan and Donald Graham.
Expanding classroom capacity at these sites will be necessary before transitioning to K-6.In
the future, two middle schools,David A.Brown Middle School and Terra Cotta Middle
School, will shift from grades 6-8 to 7-8.These middle schools will have an influx of
students in the future based on population projections under the proposed boundaries.
10. How do I reach the right department to get answers to boundary and related questions?
A: Ensuring timely answers to your questions may require contacting one or more district
departments according to your service needs and concerns. The most common inquiries
include transportation eligibility,intra-district transfer requests, and boundary locations.
+ For transportation eligibility inquiries,please call: (951) 253-7830
