Subject: Change Order No. 2 to Public Works’ Construction Agreement to Maples and
Associates for the Public Work’s Office Building Project (CIP Project
#Z20023)
Recommendations
Authorize the City Manager to execute Change Order No. 2 for $42,646.54 for a not-to-exceed
contract amount of $793,052.09 with Maples and Associates for the Public Work’s Office Building
Project (CIP Project #Z20023), in final form as approved by the City Attorney.
Background
Construction bid documents were prepared and the project was advertised for bid per the
requirements outlined in the California Public Contract Code. On May 6, 2020, the City posted on
PlanetBids the notice inviting bids for the Public Work’s Office Building Project (CIP P roject #
Z20023). On July 7, 2020, a construction agreement was awarded to Maples and Associates for
the demolition, concrete, framing, rough plumbing, windows, and roofing of the Public Work’s
Office Building.
Discussion
The scope of additional work contained in this Change Order is needed to complete certain
changes to the Project. Because Maples has already mobilized on-site, it is more cost-effective
to have Maples complete these additional elements in conjunction with the current contracted
scope of work. The requested change order includes the following:
Additional costs related to the installation of windows
Water main relocation to accommodate Southern California Edison demand
Additional costs related to the fabrication of two steel staircases
Final plumbing adjustments to the upstairs bathrooms
Increase exterior door openings to 8 feet in height
