SUBJECT: Charting the Course for 2020
Recommendation
Receive and file an update by the City Manager regarding upcoming priorities, projects and
activities planned for the coming year.
Background
The last several years the City has experienced growth and investment, which has included
significant investment by the City itself.
The City is continually working towards maintaining the quality of life that makes Lake Elsinore a
great place to live, work and play. In a Community Issues Survey conducted last year, residents
were satisfied with their quality of life, but were still concerned about essential City programs such
as public safety and public works services.
Residents identified local priorities that they would like the City to continue to address including:
fixing streets and repairing potholes,
reducing gang activity drug-related crimes,
providing quick responses to 9-1-1 emergencies,
addressing homelessness,
improving fire protection and paramedic services,
keeping public areas clean and free of graffiti, and
providing law enforcement services including neighborhood patrols, crime prevention and
investigations.
As proven by the road work occurring around Lake Elsinore, the City strives to maintain its streets
and roads, but there are still many of our local streets that have not been repaired or resurfaced
in 20 years due to a shortage of funding. Fixing potholes and repaving streets was identified by
residents as a top priority and the City agrees.
Furthermore, fast emergency response times for 9-1-1 calls are critical for saving lives, and the
City seeks to ensure that we have enough law enforcement officers, firefighters and paramedics
to respond quickly to 9-1-1 emergencies.
Charting the Course for 2020
To expand the conversation and make sure every resident has a voice, in September 2019 the
City launched Let’s Talk Lake Elsinore – a community survey to hear feedback on City service
needs and priorities.
Discussion
The City Manager will provide a brief presentation to the City Council regarding key projects
and programs planned for this coming year that align with the priorities identified as part of the
City’s Let’s Talk Lake Elsinore efforts including steps that have been taken to date and what
to expect in the new year. Key areas of focus will include public safety, environmental
stewardship, job creation, recreational amenities and traffic.
