Subject: Recognition for Kristen Malone
Dear Ms. Johnson,
I am writing to request a recognition letter or certificate for Kristen Malone, a school bus driver
employed at Lake Elsinore School district.
Yesterday, Ms. Malone, representing Lake Elsinore Unified School District at the California
Southern Sectional Roadeo, qualified for the California School Bus Driver State Championship
to be held Memorial Day weekend in Sacramento.
School Bus Roadeos are driver competitions that test the skills, knowledge and abilities of school
bus drivers. These competitions are sponsored by the California Department of Education and
the California Highway Patrol to recognize the best school bus drivers in the state and to send
representatives to the Inter -National School Bus Driver Championship.
Kristen Malone is a modest school bus driver who deserves the recognition of her community for
this outstanding accomplishment. She is the only driver from Lake Elsinore to qualify this year
and continue on the the State Championship.
Please recognize her with a certificate or award from the city for her accomplishments and
professional commitment to the community and the children she transports. I am hoping to
present this award prior to her competition in Sacramento.
Please contact me if you have any follow-up questions or need clarification on anything.
Thank You,
Corey Patton

Hi Debbie:
Here is the information relating to the recognition being requested of our two Mayors. We are hoping to arrange for
our regular meeting of May 27, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Swanson is being requested to attend and present the City of
Wildomar's certificates to these two teams. I believe that my Mayor spoke with her last week at your State of the City in
this regard.
I would greatly appreciate your confirming her attendance, please. I look forward to hearing back from you in this
regard.
Thanks — hope all is well.

Subject: David A Brown/ LEUSD THINK together sports champions
Hello Virginia,
Not sure why the other msg didn't fwd properly. I just copied and pasted this from another email I received from
the THINK together site coordinator. It's the team informatin and program history. Please see below.
Our History
THINK Together officially incorporated as a 501 @3 public benefit organization in 1997 in order to
replicate and scale a successful academic support program it had started in 1994 in the Shalimar
neighborhood in Costa Mesa, Calif. Our founder, Randy Barth, a successful
investment adviser organized a group of volunteers from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, St.
Joachim's Catholic Church and Women of Vision to respond to the plea of the mothers in Shalimar for
a safe, quiet place for their children to study and get help with their school work.
Shalimar had been raffled by a series of gang shootings and the mothers had organized to take the
neighborhood back from the gang. Out of these efforts, the Shalimar Learning Center and
the Shalimar Teen Centerwere born. Since 1994, more than 300 students from this immigrant
neighborhood have graduated high school and gone on to college, the first in their families to do so.
The first 75 or so have now graduated college and are teachers, nurses, social workers, accountants,
architects, television producers, and THINK Together's own Executive Director in Orange County. The
last six years, 100% of its high school seniors have gone to college including 23 in 2012.
1997 —2003
Privately funded, THINK Together established more than a dozen Learning Center's for elementary
and teen students in neighborhoods and subsequently on school campuses. It developed a
comprehensive program model that included strong academic support augmented by youth leadership
and development, mentoring and other enriching activities.
2004 —2006
As state and federal funding began to flow to public schools for afterschool programs, THINK Together
developed a public/private partnership model in collaboration with the Tustin and Santa
Ana Unified School District's.
2007— 2009
A large expansion of state funding occurred in the 2006-2007 school year with California's
implementation of its Proposition 49 After School Education and Safety (ASES) Act. THINK Together
scaled up from 25 sites in Orange County to 180 sites in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San
Bernardino Counties virtually overnight. THINK Together hired 1,000 people in 100 days in a large
scale replication.
2009 —2012
Since the 2007, THINK Together has sought to accomplish several things. First, to solidify program
quality consistently across all of its programs sites. Second, to leverage the infrastructure it has built
around schools to integrate other support programs (summer, Saturday, early childhood, parent) into
an ecosystem and align it with the school creating a replicable, scalable community schools model (of
sorts). Third, we have sought to continue to scale our core programs statewide in order to provide
higher quality programs to more students. Over the last four years, THINK Together has again doubled
in size to become the largest provider of Extended Learning Time programs in California.
The lake Elsinore Middle Schools (David A. Brown, Lakeland Village, Lake Elsinore Middle, and Terra
Cotta) have been playing intramural sports against one another since 2008. Intramurals started with
soccer and basketball and have expanded to include Track & Flag football the last three years. The
girls' basketball team has been the Lake Elsinore THINK Together champion since we started the
championships. The boys' basketball team has won every basketball championship except for the
2012-2013 year losing to Lake Elsinore Middle in the championship. David A. Brown is also the
defending team track Champion since its inception. This year David A. Brown defeated Lake Elsinore
Middle for the Flag Football championship. Lake Elsinore Middle had been the defending Flag
football champion the past two years.

Nicole,
Thanks for all the posting work.... Just finished up revising the promo Flyer/Poster art Opeg attached for poster
and flyer).... we added a simple map, seeing how many were concerned about attendees finding the spot... We'll
be posting on the LSCC FB page as well... looking for lots of "Likes & Shares"!
We'll be attending the CC meeting this Tuesday armed with flyers.... will probably do a quick public
announcement tease, and yes, would like to get a presentation spot on the June 10th CC meet ... (I am cc'ing
Virginia Bloom in on this email to get the ball rolling).
Still waiting for a little final input from our feature speaker to complete the press release, hopefully have that by
Tuesday or Wednesday as well.
Thanks again for all your help and support! Very much appreciated!
Have a great Holiday Weekend!
