Subject:Day Downtown Event - Road Closures
Recommendation
Approve Temporary Road Closures for the Day Downtown Event on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
Background
The City of Lake Elsinore will be hosting the Day Downtown event on Saturday, May 19th to
celebrate the City of Lake Elsinore’s 130th birthday bash and National Armed Force's Day along
Main Street in the historic downtown. Lake Elsinore is celebrating its rich history and is taking
steps to preserve it for generations to come. Bring your whole family as we have an afternoon
full of fun activities for all to enjoy! Activities will include: an Armed Forces Celebration, “Snap
the Past” Scavenger Hunt, tours of our historical museum, “Taste of LE”, Live Entertainment,
Art, Mind, Body & Soul Wellness Fair, and activity parklets.
Discussion
This year, the event is planned to take place on Main Street in Downtown Lake Elsinore from
12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Staff anticipate approximately 3,500. As a result, staff are
recommending road closures for event staging and event festivities. The Sherriff’s Department,
Fire Department, Public Works Department and Community Services Department will
coordinate resources to ensure the event is a safe and memorable experience. To ensure the
safety of the participants, staff is recommending the following road closures, as detailed in
Exhibit A:
Graham Ave. – between Spring and west of Alley East of Main St.
Main St. – south of Peck & north of Lakeshore Dr.
Lakeshore Dr. – at Main
Library St. – at Spring
Limited Ave. – at Spring
Sulphur St. – at Spring
Prospect St. – just west of Alley

It is recommended that these road closures remain in place from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and be
enforced by Law Enforcement personnel. The road closures and timing of the closures is
necessary to accommodate set up and tear down of stages, equipment and materials utilized for
the event. Parking for the event will be available at the vacant lot at the corner of Peck Street
and Main Street and along the surrounding public streets.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of the road closures is being absorbed by the existing community services,
public works, and law enforcement existing budgets.
