Domen, City Clerk Date:September 13, 2016 Subject:Appointment to the Planning Commission Recommendation Consider the subcommittee recommendation and appoint one member to serve on the Planning Commission for an unexpired term ending on June 30, 2018. Background Per the Lake Elsinore Municipal Code, 2.24.020 Membership, the Planning Commission shall consist of five members who shall not be officials or employees of the City and shall legally reside within the City limits of the City of Lake Elsinore or be the owner of a business that is established and currently licensed inside the City limits; 2.24.030 Appointment – Removal, the members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of a majority of the members of the City Council and may be removed by the Mayor at his pleasure, but subject to the approval by a majority of the members of the City Council; 2.24.040 Term of Office, the members of the Planning Commission shall be appointed for a term of four years. City Council Policy 200-5A sets forth the process in which applications will be accepted and reviewed. Discussion The term of office for an unexpired term on the Planning Commission ends on June 30, 2018; one seat is currently vacant as Commissioner Jordan resigned from the position. Pursuant to City Council Policy No. 200-5A, applications remain on file through December. In addition, the City Clerk’s Department posted the Notice of Accepting Applications for Consideration of Appointment from August 23, 2016, through September 2, 2016. A total of four applications were received by the filing deadline (three from the July appointment and one new one); Mike Alwardt, Darrill Andreis Rendell Klaarenbeek and Fred West. A state of the art library and a dynamic community center that promotes public gathering are just two examples that come to my mind.
