SERVING YOUR COMMUNITY WITH A FUEL FAR CLEANER THAN NATURAL GAS
Imagine a carbon -free, ultra-low emission, locally produced, renewable transportation fuel
with enough energy to power heavy-duty vehicles. CR&R Environmental Services is
investing in an advanced technology known as Anaerobic Digestion (AD) and will soon
be capable of powering its natural gas refuse collection trucks w!fh100% Renewable
Natural Gas created from organic waste.
We are currently under construction of a processing facillity that can accept organic waste
and convert this material to an ultra clean fuel that will power our collection vehicles. It's an
advanced technology that moves waste and associated methane emissions from the landfill
and info our vehicles in the form of a renewable natural gas; the cleanest transportation fuel
available today. In addition, we will also create a high-grade compost material.
The AD system will be located at CR&R's facility in Perris, California. A digester "digests"
organic waste, producing "b!ogas". State-of-the-art systems will clean up the biogas and
convert it into a renewable natural gas to be used in compressed natural gas collection
trucks servicing Southern California!

The digester produces zero untreated emissions in a completely closed loop system that will:
* Eliminate more than 99% of greenhouse gas emissions from vehicle operations - the
equivalent of taking thousands of cars in your community off the road. (4.8 metric tons
per vehicle, EPA, 2009)
* Allow your community to meet the 75% recycling rate - now a State Goal
* Utilize waste collection trucks that have the lowest emissions in California
* Provide water -saving fertilizer and soil products for landscape and farm use from organic
material not converted to biomethane
* Utilize proven technology for guaranteed performance and results
Governor Brown Signs Historic Organics Bills into Law
AB1826 and AB1594
September 30, 2014, Sacramento, California - Governor Jerry Brown signed two landmark pieces of
Legislation into law this past weekend. These Bills will drastically reduce the amount of Organic Waste,
such as Yard and Food waste, from ending up in our landfills. The two environmentally centric bills will
accomplish the following:
• AB 1826, by Assembly Member Wes Chesbro, will require businesses to separate their
food scraps and yard trimmings for composting or anaerobic digestion.
• AB 1594, by Assembly Member Das Williams, will eliminate a loophole instate law that
allows yard trimmings, prunings and other green waste that are used as landfill cover to
count as being "diverted" from landfills.
Despite California's robust recycling infrastructure for traditional recyclables, the state continues to
landfill organic materials at an alarming rate. In fact, food is the most prevalent item in the disposed
waste stream and over 40% of all material going to landfills is readily compostable or anaerobically
digestible. Even in the best managed landfills, organic waste rots in an oxygen -deprived environment,
which leads to the generation of upwards of 7 million tons of greenhouse gases each year, in addition
to significant water and air pollution challenges.
Anaerobic digestion not only avoids these impacts, but it also re -engineers these materials into two
environmentally safe and sustainable by-products: a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and a rich Soil
Amendment. Creating the cleanest burning gas available on the market today and buildings healthy
soils through the introduction of rich organic material significantly increases water retention, reduces
soil erosion and prevents the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
CR&R's new $30 million Anaerobic Digester, currently under construction in Perris, California, will
significantly add to the region's ability to safely and efficiently recover our locally generated Organic
Waste. In addition, jurisdictions that process their organic materials through our state-of-the-art facility
will also be in full compliance with new State Regulations. Now, recovering this waste material doesn't
just make environmental sense it also makes "local policy sense"as well.
If you have any questions regarding CR&R's new state-of-the-art Anaerobic Digester Facility please call
Mike Silva, Project Manager, at 714-883-3777 or you can email him at michaels@crrmail.com.

Does This Affect My Business?
How do I know if my business
or multi -family complex will be
required to have organic waste
recycling?
Where can I find more
information about AB 1826?
Initially, most entities that will be required to have organics recycling
service will be in the food service industry (such as commissaries,
grocery stores and restaurants) or multi -family complexes (that consist
of five or more units) with green waste or yard trimmings. But after
January 1, 2019, all businesses that generate four cubic yards or more
of commercial solid waste per week, regardless of type, must arrange
for organic waste recycling services.
Customers who are interested in learning more about AB 1826 can visit
the State of California's CalRecycle web page on Mandatory Com-
mercial Recycling (http://www.calrecycle,ca.gov/Recycle/
Commercial/Organics/).

City of Lake Elsinore & CR&R Environmental Services
Organics Recycling Program
The waste collection services for Lake Elsinore residents will become more environmentally
friendly and help improve our air quality for generations to come.
- The recyclables will be processed at CR&R's Material

Recovery Facility (MRF). The recyclables are separated utilizing
." a process of manual and mechanical sorting.
These combined processes ensure that the maximum amount
of recyclables are recovered from the waste stream and kept
. y. out of the Landfill.
The materials from the organics container will be transported to
CR&R's new Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Facility, in Perris, CA.
The facility will convert all of your organic waste (yard and food
scraps) into renewable natural gas to fuel our collection fleet
and a high quality fertilizer, This program will keep all of your
city's organic waste out of the landfill.
