A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKE
ELSINORE, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE BUTTERFIELD TRAIL
CONCEPTUAL ALGINMENT ANALYSIS
WHEREAS, in 2013, City staff began meeting with the Riverside County
Regional Park and Open Space District, the City of Corona, the Riverside County Board
of Supervisors, Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency, the Riverside County
Park District Advisory Commission and the National Park Service's Rivers, Trails and
Conservation staff to discuss the feasibility of the Butterfield Trail Connection along the
Temescal Wash Corridor; and
WHEREAS, the trail would link Murrieta Creek Regional Trail to the 100 plus mile
Santa Ana River Trail, which will travel from the San Bernardino Mountains to
Huntington Beach once completed; and
WHEREAS, one of the main goals of the Butterfield Trail Conceptual Alignment
Analysis is to create a consistent trail user experience; and
WHEREAS, the historic Butterfield Trail was the first transcontinental route
moving people and mail across the country; and
WHEREAS, the participating organizations will work collaboratively to obtain
grant funding for environmental documentation, planning, design and construction of the
trail links; and
WHEREAS, the participating organizations will work collaboratively to develop
consistent and appropriate signalized street crossing strategies suitable for multi -use
trail users at all major intersections where at -grade crossings will be required; and
WHEREAS, the Butterfield Trail Conceptual Alignment Analysis is conceptual in
nature only and the City is not making any formal amendments to the trail alignments
contained in the City's General Plan at this time.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKE ELSINORE DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the foregoing recitals are true and correct.
SECTION 2. That the Butterfield Trail Alignment Analysis is approved for use in
developing trail connectivity along the Temescal Wash Corridor.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage and adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Lake Elsinore, California, this 8th day of March, 2016.
