REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: GRANT YATES, CITY MANAGER DATE: JULY 28, 2015 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANTING OF MEMORIAL TREE RECOMMENDATION Approve planting of a tree and bench in memory of Nevaeh Jacobo - Velasquez at Lakepoint Park. BACKGROUND Nevaeh Jacobo- Velasquez passed away on March 19, 2015 at the young age of 2 '/2 years old. She was a young, playful child that loved to play at Lakepoint Park on the grass and the playgrounds that overlooked Lake Elsinore. Her parents, Kesha Wright and Christian Jacobo, would take her to play and these are some of their fondest memories with Nevaeh. DISCUSSION In accordance with Council Policy No. 400 -10, staff has met with a representative from the family to discuss the potential location and type of tree they would like to have planted in the memory of their daughter. Attached are photos of the tree, Magnolia Tree (Magnolia Grandiflora) that was selected as well as a vicinity map of Lakepoint Park. In addition to the tree, the family is also donating a bench in honor of Nevaeh that will be placed under the tree and faces to the playground. A plaque will be placed on the bench, ARTS AND CULTURE AD HOC SUB COMMITTEE July 28, 2015 Page 2 funded by the family. Staff has reviewed and approved the tree species and proposed location for the planting and bench location. FISCAL IMPACT The family has graciously agreed to pay for the purchase and installation of the bench and tree at Lakepoint Park. Prepared by: Johnathan O.
