SUBJECT: Purchase of Two (2) BMW R1200RT Authority Motorcvcles
Recommendations
Authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase agreement for two (2) BMW R120ORT
Authority Motorcycles in the total amount of $57,835.14 ($28,917.57 each) from BMW
Motorcycles of Riverside.
Background
This purchase is needed to replace one BMW motorcycle that was declared by the City's
insurance carrier a total loss from a vehicle accident. An insurance claim has been
approved for a loss amount of $27,741.20 the second motorcycle purchase is needed to
replace a fully depreciated, older motorcycle that has exceeded the serviceable
operational life and presents unrepairable safety concerns.
Discussion
In October 2014 the City invited bids from surrounding BMW motorcycle
dealerships for the purchase of Police Motorcycles. The three dealerships
providing bids are listed below with the pricing detail:

of these two needed police motorcycles.

In order to satisfy the immediate public safety requirement staff has elected to
piggy -back on the previous purchase agreement. This effort will save valuable
administrative and logistic lead -time to insure the field deployment of the
motorcycles to the Police Department in the most expeditious manner. This
piggy -back purchase also ensures a competitive price is received and
simultaneously satisfies the City's purchasing requirements. Attachment A is
provided from the previous purchase of the BMW R1200RT motorcycles.
Fiscal Impact
The purchase cost of the these two motorcycles will be paid from the amount received
from the insurance carrier for the claimed loss amount of $27,741.20 and the balance of
the purchase amount from the Fiscal Year 2015 -2016 Operating Budget, Internal Service
Fund (Fleet).
