REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR
AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: VIRGINIA J. BLOOM, CITY CLERK
DATE: MAY 12, 2015
SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF CERTAIN REGULAR MEETING DATES FOR 2015
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve the proposed cancellation of the regular
meeting dates of November 24, and December 22, 2015.
Discussion
Many governmental agencies "go dark" during certain times of the year and more
specifically during the holidays. Last year, the Council voted to cancel several meeting
dates during the last quarter of the year. It is proposed that Council consider going dark
again this year at certain designated meeting dates immediately surrounding the holidays.
The proposed dates are November 24, and December 22, 2015.
Staff is proposing that the Council approve the cancellation of two regularly scheduled
meeting during the months of November and December. November 24 falls on the Tuesday
before the Thanksgiving holiday at which City Hall is closed; and, December 22 is two days
before a state mandated holiday at which City Hall is closed.
Should the need arise, a Special Council meeting may be called with only 24 hours posting
notice to the public in order to address any necessary Council business.
Fiscal Impact
The cancellation of any Council and /or Successor Agency meeting dates will reduce the
costs of staff time and those additional expenses associated with those meetings.
