HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Reso No 1968-1242RESOLUTION NO. 1242 D FOR DECENCY WEEK WHEREAS, the traffic in obscenity and pornography is a growing national problem, and WHEREAS, a growing flood of pornographic material is being distributed through newsstands and the U.S. Mail, and WHEREAS, President Lyndon B. Johnson on January 2, 1968, appointed a Presidential Commission on Obscenity and Pornography, and WHEREAS, the well -being of both children and adults is greatly influenced by the literature they read, and the motion pictures they see, and WHEREAS, uplifting, worthwhile literature and motion pictures can give many hours of pleasure, providing great satisfaction and benefit to the reader, and WHEREAS, obscenity and pornography are contributing factors to social problems such as illegitimacy, venereal disease, use of narcotics, and juvenile crime, NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Elsinore, California hereby declares that the week of April 22 - 28 be designated "D FOR DECENCY WEEK ", and further urges that all citizens actively participate in the following activities: 1. Educate our citizens to the growing problem of obscenity and pornography in Los Angeles County. - 2. Encourage the passage of sound state legislation which will correct the problem. 3. Promote the reading of uplifting and worthwhile literature, especially among young people. 4. Promote positive moral and spiritual values in the home. 5. Work for a closer association of families with character - building organizations. 6. Request local, County and State officials to take action against producers and distributors of obscene and pornographic material. 7. Cooperate fully with'local law enforcement agencies, the City Attorney, the District Attorney, the Attorney General, and the Presidential Commission on Obscenity and Pornography, Washington, D. C., in efforts to abate obscene literature and other forms of pornography, including motion pictures. Attest: Florene Marshall City Clerk of the City of Elsinore RESOLUTION NO. 1243 T. R. Yarborough Mayor of the City of Elsinore A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELSINORE, CALIFORNIA, ORDERING THE CANVASS OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE 9TH DAY OF APRIL, 1968, TO BE MADE BY THE CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF ELSINORE. WHEREAS, a regular general municipal election will be held and conducted in the City of Elsinore, County of Riverside, State of California, on Tuesday, the 9th day of April, 1968, as required by law; and WHEREAS, the City Council of said City desires the canvass of said election to be made by the City Clerk of said City; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELSINORE, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: That pursuant to Section 22932.5 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the canvass of the regular general municipal election to be held in the City of Elsinore, County of Riverside, State of California, on Tuesday, the 9th day of April, 1968, is hereby ordered to be made by the City Clerk of the City of Elsinore. SECTION 2: That the City Clerk of said City shall prior to the 16th day of April, 1968, complete the canvass of the regular general municipal election to be held in said City on the 9th day of April, 1968, and shall certify the results to this said City Council on the 16th day of April, 1968. SECTION 3: That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original Resolutions of said City, and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said City, in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted.
