Dairy Products It is trite to say that the tax burden upon the people has become almost unbearable. Everyone is searching for a way to reduce the cost of government. The cost of public education is a major factor in the cost of government. And the cost of construction of school facilities is a major item in the cost of education. We submit that the foregoing facts are self-evident. A major item in the cost of construction of school faci I ities is that of architects' fees and inspection during construction. We submit that in the immediate future California schools will spend over $500,000,000.00 on new buildings. Approximately $50,000,000.00 will, therefore, be spent on architects' fees and costs of inspection, unless a drastic change is made in the present haphazard system of drawing individual plans and specifications for every school construction job. The Delano Chamber of Commerce has a definite plan to reduce these terrific costs. This plan is outlined in the enclosed resolution. We submit that there is no reason at all why each school should be a memorial to some unknown person; no reason why school plans and buildings should not be reduced to the essentials; and no reason why two or more such buildings should not be identical, if the requirements are identical. The present system is a wasteful folly that the taxpayer can no longer afford. Therefore, we urge that you adopt the enclosed resolution and give it your militant support. Let's all get behind this worthy, timely, sensible, and sound proposition to reduce one item of government expense and override all selfish opposition thereto. . Yours truly, DELANO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (P. O. Box 457, Delano, Calif') P. S. Your advice as to action taken will be greatly appreciated
