HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Reso No 1963-1115 RESOLUTION NO. 1115 WHEREAS, long cherished privileges accorded all Thlited States Citizens by the Bill of Rights permits us to have freedom of speech, both verbal and wri tten, and WHEREAS, this Council defends and supports those privileges, and WHEREAS, all documents conceived bjT men. have certain limitations and must therefore be inturpreted to establish the meaning of the language and, WHEREAS, many Americans have given their lives a."d their health to pro- tect and uphold the Constitution, and WHEREAS, on rare occasions it becomes necessary to protect ourselves against certain societal elements that would distort and carry to outrageous extremes the very rights and privileges we hold so dear, and ~~TJIEREAS, when such conditions become self-evident, it is our duty as citizens to make our position known, Therefore, LETIT BE RESOLVED, that we members of the City Council of Elsinore, California do hereby proclaim our contempt for the book "A Dictionary of American Slangll and strongly urge that every legal step be taken to keep this and publications of the same nature out of the libraries of publicly supported educational institutions. We can find no justification for the existence of such a book by a~y stretch of the wonderful first amendment and we are conVinced that the founding fathers in no way intended the Bill of Rights to be perverted to th~ extent that unmitigated pGrnography would have to be forced upon our children.
