WHEREAS, the current power shortage is likely to beaome more acute
within the next Pew months, and even more critical in the future; and
WHEREAS, it 1s apparent the current resources are insufficient to
bring about a reversal of this trend; and
WHEREAS, the United 3tates must seriously consider the advisability
of becoming independent of foreign fuel resources at the earliest possible
time; and
WHEREAS, the CaliPornia Coastal Zone Conservation Commission has
denied the request for expansion oP the San Onofre Nuclear generating
station; and
WfIEREA3, this pro,~ect had pseviously been extensively considered
and received approval of the Atomic Energy Commission, and various
enoironmental protection agencies; and
WHEREAS; this nuclear site had specifically receined the approval of
Congress; and
WHIItEAS, prompt actlon is necessary to begin work that will lead to
development of resources of future needs,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE YT RE30LVED by the City Council of the Citq of
Lake Elsinore that an urgent request be directed to the California
Coastal Zone Commission to rescind its previous decision snd grant
immediate approval for the Purther development oP the 3an Onofre Nuclear
generating s#ation,
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption and passage oY thls
resolution and the same shall thereupon take ePfect and be in force.
