HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Reso No 1981-25RESOLUTION NO. 81-25 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKE ELSINORE EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE PERIPHERAL CANAL PROJECT AND URGING OTHERS TO SUPPORT THE PERIPHERAL CANAL REFERENDUM WHEREAS, the increasing possibility of serious water shortages within the next decade is a source of continuing concern to all residents and businesses in the City of Lake Elsinore and throughout Southern California; and WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal would assure a stabilized quality of water not now enjoyed by State Water Project Contractors and permit Southern California water utilities to commit funds to waste water reclamation, thereby reducing both long-term demands for water and providing insurance against the effects of draught; and WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elsinore and attendant municipal entities and representatives are extremely concerned over the failure to start the long-delayed project; and WHEREAS, the Supreme Court has ruled that by 1985 Southern California's supply of water from the Colorado River will be cut in half; and WHEREAS, the timely development of the Peripheral Canal Project is necessary to ensure the future orderly growth and development of the economic base of business and industry in the City of Lake Elsinore and Southern California; and once agreement is reached, it will take many years to complete the work necessary to open such a canal; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lake Elsinore does support the Peripheral Canal Project and does urge all voters to also support this project by approving the Peripheral Canal Referendum. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED. that the Board of Supervisors of the Counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura, and all cities within these Counties are urged to go on record in strong support of ratification of the Peripheral Canal Referendum. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Lake Elsinore be directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each of the Counties mentioned above.
