A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LAKE ELSINORE, CALIFORNIA, COMMEMORATING THE
LIFE AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF DR. MARTIN LUTNER KING,
JR., AND PROCLAIMING JANUARY 15, 1982 AS DR.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., DAY.
WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., devoted his life
to the cause of equality and justice for all Americans; and
WHEREAS, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for lead-
ing the struggle for equality through nonviolent means; and
WHEREAS, his efforts profoundly touched the lives of a
generation of Americans and contributed to the enaction of landmark
legislation, specifically the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the ~oting
Rights Act of 1965; and
WHEREAS, this legislation has had a visible and lasting
impact upon our nation, extending the Constitutional guarantee of
equal protection under the law to all people; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on
January 15, 1929;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Lake Elsinore, California, does hereby proclaim
January 15, 1982 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in recognition
of the important contributions he made towards achieving equality
for all Americans.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that January 15, 1982 is to be a
day of rededication by the citizens of Lake Elsinore to the principles
of equality and justice upon which our republic was founded.
