A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LAKE ELSINORE
SUPPORTING A PROPOSED BARBERSHOP
HARMONY COMMEMORATIVE STAMP.
WHEREAS, Barbershop harmony is an uniquely American form of
musical expression; and
WHEREAS, the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement
of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America will observe its Fiftieth
Anniversary in April of next year; and
WHEREAS, many of the approximately 40,000 members of the
Society are residents of Riverside County and contribute
significantly to the listening pleasure of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Barbershoppers regularly and consistently contribute
of their time and talent musically and otherwise to the many and
varied worthy activities of our communities; and
WHEREAS, this uniquely American musical form has not yet been
provided recognition on a postage stamp; and
WHEREAS, the Society has prepared an appropriate commemorative
stamp £or consideration;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council hereby supports approval of
an April, 1988, issuance of the recommended Barbershop Harmony
Commemorative Stamp.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on this 25th day of August, 1987,
by the following roll call vote:
