The P.'ie-eting was called to order at the hour o1' 7:30r_P,nr_, with. Mayor Matich: in the Chair. Councilmen:> C,A:LOZrEJOY, Leslie Merrifield, Henry Perret, J. .A~il1s and Id.P:iatich answered the roll; call:. Alasent,: None.. ~~ i ,In the:absence of Clerk C.Jckalina, the minutes of. the meeting of January 11th, 1g43 were dispensed with. I Thereupon the Clerk pro-tem presented bo the Council a commuhi- ~ cation:from: the Imperial EIighwayrAssociation, signed by !a,C.Collatz i Chairman, extending an invta-t ion to the City;"Couneil:to attend a- meeting at the-wreden Hotei on January 30th. The Association also ~ requested a donation of ten dollars be allowed for publicity expense in connection r^rith same. ~! I I j s~+/hereupon it eras moved by Councilman M11s and seconded by' Councilman Lovejoy that ten dollars::be allowed the, Imperial Highway ~~ Association.; which motion uponvote was carried.: I r Thereupon the Clerk pro-tem, presented to the Council a communi- cation from;.:the:Gudahy'Packing Comp any,: Los Angeles,, regarding the Business License For 1943, and requesting that said ordinance"be re- moved and the tax cancelled due to present conditions in the Meat i~ Industry. , - -- ?Thereupon it teas moved by Councilman Nii11s and ;seconded by ~ Councilman Lovejoy that the Clerk pro-tem, be instructed to write a ~~r;_letter to, the: Cudahy PacYing Company, informing;:tn.em that: some time would::be nece sary to check on;the.license ordinance and that should action be taken at a later date, to repeal ordinance, that all payments ~ made could be refunded. Until such time the license must be paid. `The totalsoharge, if paid within discount date, ,being Sp11.20, a very nominal charge for business license: ;'dnich motion upon.. vote was,carrie ®~ Thereupon the Clerk pro-tem reported the receipt of a check from ~~-County Auditor in the amount of;~g335.2~ being for current 1942-43 ~; Taxes. _ 1. ;hereupon it was moved-by Counci man P,~ills and: aeoonded by Couneilr2an Perret that: said check be accepted ahd deposited in the City Treasury:. He also asked permission to remove trs ee Pepner Trees from the pari~may in-Yront of his property on E.Peck street';'replac- ' ::. ing trees by new planting.'.. S^lhereupon it was moved by Councilman Mi11s and seconded by Councilman Merrifield that P,Z.Perret be allowed to remove and replant said trees.- "Thick motion,. upon vote, was unanimously carried. Councilman Perret reported that the rent survey undertaken `by the .City of-Elsinore with"PGrs": Re"ta Fees surveying the 'rental properties in a very thorough'-manner; had been completed. Three - copes of all .available rentals`had'been-'made; one being left with the Citu'Hall; one with !the Chamber of Commerce, anda-one-with " - the Leader`Press. Fire* Councilman Ivlerrifield reported that he had investigated the prices! of Fire hose and upon suggestion>by=P:4ayor Nfatich, a> motion Xmas made by Councilman Ferret`seeflndediby Couneilman'Louejoy, that Fire Commissioner Councilman P.2err3field be',authorized to purchase the needed Fire hose of about 500 ft. <Ayes: Councilmen '- C,A.Lovejoy, Leslie Merrifield,-Flenry'Perret John E'.N~i11s; Noes: None.. Absent:-Novo. _ Councilman Merrifield reported'.'that the City Fire truck is in .'good condition eheept for'one`nevr-tube which order has-not arrived ,as yet: :: ' City Hall* Councilman Lovejoy 'reported some 'damage done to the-City Hall by rain storm= I+ir.'Beaeh`had inspected:: roof on City:Hall'ahd reports repairs will have to be made when the rain is over. Street* Councilman-hills reported: one street in bad condition, follow- ing local storm. A Bulldozer will be needed to work on it. -- Councilman Mills reported that local Defense:progra~; carried out on January lath; 1943, as quite°5atisfactory and'-plans will be made to have a practice drill on Defense vdork at an early-date. Thereupon an invitation from the Riverside County Peace Officers Association was extended to tYie City Council, to attend the meeting to be held February 4th, 1943, at the ;~Ireden Hotel. I~4ayor ivSatich made three reservations for same. Councilman Lovejoy made reservation to attend the Imperial Highway Association dinner January 30th, at the e'Ireden Hotel. Bills in the amount of ~N1,680.64 were then presented to the Council and on tlotion duly made and carried, vaere ordered paid and the Clerk pro-tem was instructed to issue warrants in payment of same. Thereupon there being on i;~otion duly made and ca regular session on Pdonday, in the City hall.
