Ti,e meeting •rlas called to order at the hour of 7:30 Pli with ~~Iavor »tich in the chair. Cour_cilmen: ?Merrifield;'' Lone. James, Goodcase and i~savor i~tIatich answered the roll call. There'•being no`other alterations nor corrections the mintues sttiod apbroved as read.- There were several visitors present, tnev all being called upon to state their wants or requirements or desires. Willffiam G. Brown was called upon-first'at which he requests an-investigation br re-reading of his`.water'metery he being informed that: the :ruatter ` ' had already been taken care of. Iviotion carried and so ordered. Communication Prom Leaaue of California Cities pertaining to a' dinner at Carona Fridfly, ~ulv 2'7th was read. Clerk eras instructed to reserve dinner for five. She complaining about the Colored policeman in the colored district, ~~ 'J: A. N'Ieninnev. There being quite a dissention in that part of town regarding the conduct and acticns of I~r. 1°ic~inney. Chief of rolice "armon was called upon to state his views, °'he stating that there seems to be two factions of opi~i.on; for and against fir. I'~ekinney. There was quite a discussion pro and con and Council could not settle the matter at the Council meeting. 3~iotion by ~+errifield and seconded b,y Longe that the matter be turned over to Police Commissioner. James and 'Chief of rolice Harmon for settling for the best interests of all concerned. T~Iotion carried and so ordered. Cpuncilmaur<James report: Building,lnspector James reports that Police A. E, Simmens had spoken to him abort the ob ~f Building Inspector and would study City ordinances pertaining to buildings and perform his duty to the best of his ability.- PdIotion by Lange and seconded by I'~errifield that A. ~, ~immens be temporarily appointed as Building lnspeetor for a period of sixty days, staring ,gust-.1st, at a,;salary of 25.00 per month additional to his regular police salary. TuToti.on by Goodcase and seconded by Lon€e that the matter of garbage, collection be left up to Street Commissioner Merrifield to act as Iie sees Pit. ~oti_on carried and ao ordered. khe subject of State Compensation lnsuranee pertaining to all memebers of the Volunteer Fire Lepartment was brought up regarding the_ages of 18 to 21. The clerk being instructed .to get in contact with Fi.re:Chief-Johnson obtaining sa;~es of all fireme~nd to submit the same to the Mate "ompensation '`nsurange regarding age limit. Ivloti.on by Longe and seconded Tay James that City Clerk and Fire Chief `~ohnson submit information desired to the State ,_, Compensation Commission. Motion earned.:and so ordered. Steve Susa, Park caretaker, asked for relief during vacation. Elsinore. Local ned Oross asked for the use oP a portion of Lake Whore Drive to conduct swimming classes. emotion by Longe and seconded by Uoodease that the Hed Cross be grant$d their request and to give what, assistance afforded. Motion carried and so ordered. A check fora50.1B~was received-from County Auditor,. ~. ~l'. fiicks,covering ta~l,assesments. A motion by ~errif'ield and seconded by Goodcase that check received by accepted and deposited to ,the proper funds. 1~otion carried and so ordered. A +~r. Sam ~of Long Beach-was present and asked how his property south of rail road tracks, east>from Lorne to Central can come into the Elsinore Ta~ and also regarding water and sewerage.; `~e being s,nstructed to contact Attorney Bes ~r information desired, Bills were read, inspected and audited by the Auditing 4ottm~ittee.
