HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-12-1948 City Council MinutesMINUTE BECOAD OF REGULAR MEETING CITY ~UNCIL CITY OF ELS1tdORE MEETING HELD ON THE 12th DAY OF April rs 48. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Elsinore was held on the above date. The meeting was called to order at the hour of 7:30 P,M, with Mayor W,P. Smith in the chair. Councilman John Allen, Leslie Merrifield, J.A. Tarpley, Fred Stokes and Mayor W.P. SYnith answer roll call. Thereupon the clerk read the minutes of the March 22nd meeting and there being no errors or omissions were approved as read. Also read the minutes of the special meetings of April 6th and 9th which were approved as read. Thereupon the Clerk read a letter f ram the Associated Amusement Co. stating that they would put on their £air in the city and give the 12-20 club, their sponsors a fair percentage of all profits. Members of the 12-20 club being present stated that if the 9ouncil would grant a free permit for said fair they would take care of the policeing. ti+Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Allen second by Councilman Tarpley that the 12-20 Club as sponsors of Fair be granted a free permit to hold said fair on the City grounds on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th of April, which motion upon vote was carried. ?rhereupon it was moved by Councilman Merrifield second by Councilman Sto: that the 12-20 Club be granted a free permit to hold a teen-age dance at the Elsinore Union High School on Friday April lbth, 1948, which motion upon vote was carried. Thereupon the Clerk read a deed and Resolution No. 500. It being a deed and Resolution making an exchange of propert~~ to straighten out a property line. Location of property being on theist side of Warm Springs Park. Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Merri that Resolution No. 500. authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign said deed and Resolution be passed and adopted as read, which motion was carried by the following vote, Councilman Allen Yes " " Merrifield Yes Noes None " " Tarpley Yes " " Stokes Yes Absent None Mayor Smith Yes y Thereupon the Clerk read a claim from Jeanie Randall asking X25,000.00 damages f r° hav~g sustained severe and permanent injuries as a result of an accident at Main and Graham, through negligence o£ City and its employees. Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Merrifi that the claim of said Jeanie Randall be rejected, which motion was carried by the following vote. Councilman Allen Yes " ° Merrifield Yes Noes None " " Tarpley Yes " " Stokes Yes Absent None Mayor Smith Yes MIlYUTE RECORD OF SHEET # 2 MEETZI~IG HELD OK THE 12th DLit OF April 19 G.g Thereupon the Clerk read a letter from Chief of Police Copeland, stating that Officer Seed had offered his resignation owing to il~riess of long standing and that he had temporarily hired James Cox in Seeds place. irlhereupon it was moved by Councilman Merrifield second by Councilman Sto that the resignation of Officer Seed be accepted with regrets, which motion upon vote was carried. Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Allen second by Councilman Tarpley that the action of Chief of Police Copeland employing James Cox temporarily on the Police force be accepted. Which motion was carried by the following vote. Councilman Allen Yes ~' " Merrifield Yes Noes None " " Tarpley Yes " " Stokes Yes Absent None Mayor Smith Yes thereupon it was moved by Councilman Allen second by Councilman Stokes that a request made by Postmaster Burnham for loading zone near Post Office be handled by the Mayor and Police Dept. as per Ordinance, which motion upon vote was carried. Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Tarpley' that the City Offices be closed on Election Day. City Clerk to be in his office, which motion upon vote was carried. ?nThereupon it was moved by Councilman Allen second by Councilman Stokes that owing to the condition of the fire hose bought during, the war 300 feet of new Eureka hose be purchased and fire department be authorized to purchase same, which motion was carried by the following vote. Councilman Allen Yes " " Merrifield Yes Noes None " ~' Tarpley Yes " " Stokes Yes Absent None Mayor Smith Yes Thereupon Councilman Allen member o£ Finance Cornmi.tte read the report of the City Clerk and Treasurer for the month o£ March. ~,dhereupon it was moved by Councilman Merrifield second by Councilman Stokes that the report of the Clerk and Treasurer be accepted as audited by Committee and ordered filed, which motion upon vote was carried. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Merrifield second by Councilman S that the motion authorizing the payment of certain stree vrork be paid all from the Special Street Fund be recinded and declared void. td 1y[o~6iK tM 1/~-G Lda.O c4, 'Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Allen second by Councilman Merrifi that said street work which was done on streets under agreement with department of highways be paid from the special gasoline tax fund and the balance from the Special Street Fund, which motion upon vote was carried. Whereupon it was moved by Councilnman Allen second by Councilman Merri that the bills be allowed as audited by auditing committee and clerk instructed to issue warrents far same, which motion upon vote was carried.
