A Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Elsinore was held on
the above dat$. The meeting was called. to order at the hour of 7:30'P.M. with Mayor
id.P. Smith in the chair.
Councilman Lesiie Merrifield, J.A. Tarpley, Fred Stokes and Mayor W.P. Smith
answer roll .call. Councilman Allen absent.
Thereupon the clerk read the minutes of-the February 24, 1948 meeting and
there being no errors or ommissions were approved as read.
Thereupon the clerk read a letter from Fire Chief Brady asking the Council
for free permit for the annual Fireman's Ball being held at the Elsinore Union High
School, also asking that they wanted to furnish their own Police, as their members
were in the employ of the City.
Whereupon. it was moved by Councilman Merrifield second by Councilman Tarple;
that the request of^the Fire ChieF be granted and the Clerk instructed to issue them a
free dance permit.
Thereupon the Clerk read resolution No. 499. A resolution requesting the
County Clerk for extra copies of the indexes for the General Municipal Election being
held April 13, 1948•
Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Merrifield
that Resolution No. 499 be passed and adopted as read. Wh~:ch motion was carried by
the following vote,

Councilman Stokes, Fire Commissioner reports that the fire department now
having a night man on duty, that they have asked that a telephone be installed in the
night mans quarters in back of the Fire Station.
Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Tarpley
that the California Water and Telephone be authorized to install a telephone. in the
Fire Dept, nightman's quarters, which motion was carried by the following vote,

~~I Thereupon Councilman Stokes, Water Commissioner reported that the Committee
appointed at the February 24th meeting had met with a Committee from the Country Club
;Heights district on their water question. The committee dsCided to repair the old
~~direct line and that had been done.and turned on, also connection had been made with
Mow reservior so it could be turned on at any time, to supply said district,

Mr. Harry Brady representing the Lutheran Church, being present asked the
(City Council for permission to install a septic tank as to connect with the sewer was
itoo expensive, it being 600 feet away.

ill t,~hereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Merrifield
Ilthat the Lutheran ChurLh be granted a permit to install septic tank and for them to
jsubmit plans for same, which motion upon vote was carried.
~~ Mr. Matich contractor for Union Grammar School improvement work being done
asked the City Council to have grade stakes set by City Ehgineer for curbs 100 feet on
Lindsey and 150 feet on alley, showing the Council blue print of proposed work.
i Whereupon it was moved by Oouncilman Merrifield .second by Councilman Stokes
;the Street Commissioner be authorized to instruct D.R. Crane, City "ngineer to set said
':grade stakes on Street and Alley as requested by Mr. Matich, which motion upon vote
lwas carried.

Iii Whereupon it was moved by Counci]man Stokes second by Councilman Merrifield
~~;the City Clerk be authorized to purchase a four drawer legal size filing cabinet and
;;guides and folders for same, for use in the City Clerks Office, which motion upon vote
!',was carried.
Thia being the time and place as advertized for the opening of bids for a
pump and motor to be installed at the General Petroleum Well, leased by the City, the
Clerk read the following bids. Johnson Pump Co. bid of X2,873.99--Byron Jackson Co.
bid of $2,960.55--Pomona Pump Co. bid of $2,859.$7. Action of accepting one of above
bid postponed to adjourned meeting to be held at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday March 9th, 1948 at
the regular meeting place.
~~! Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Tarpley
that the Clerk be instructed to have the City Attorney draw up legal papers for the
;ordering of demolishing the building located at Nos. 105-7 N. Main St, which had been
(;ordered vacated, which motion was carried by the following vote.

ill Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Merrifield
!that the four men as follows be appointed as Plumbing F~caminers for the City of Slsino
ilMarshall Moore and Philip Feinberg as Master Plumbers and Ray Ferris and Harry Moblie
~as Journeymen Plumbers Examiners, as recommended by Mayor Smith, which motion was
learried by the following vote.

~~ ~,~Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Tarpley
that Mr. Harmon be authorized to finish installing pipe line so as to connect the
!General Petroleum Corp. Well with the City Water System, which motion upon vote was
carried.
~i Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Merrifield second by Councilman Tarpley
iithat Mr. Harmon, Water Supt. be authorized to wire the two street lights in front of
~Ithe Mortan Block and employ Matich Bros to break the concrete to do said job, which
,motion upon vote was carried.

Whereupon it was moved by Councilmau Tarpley second. by Councilman Stokes
that Mr. Harmon, Water Supt. be authorized to locate a light standard to replace the
'one broken in front of the Elsinore Tire Shop, which motion upon vote was carried.

orderedfiled, which motion upon vote was carried.
it Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Tarpley second by Councilman Stokes
I; the report of the Water and License Clerk be accepted as read and ordered filed,
(which motion upon vote was carried.
III Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Stokes second by Councilman Merrifield
lthat the meeting adjourn to meet again at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday March 9th, 1948 as an
adjourned meeting, which motion upon vote was carried.
