The meeting was called to order at the hour o£ q:30P.M, with Mayor Tarpley in the chair. .Councilmen: Samuel Farber, Fred Penrod, J. J. Tavis, and T~Tayor J;.'A. Tarple answered roll call.. Councilman T, R, Yarborough. absent,. Thereupon the Clerk read the minutes of the meeting,of April 11, 1949, and there being no errors or omissions were approved as read,. I Thereupon the Clerk read Resolution No, 561, a reso lution employ=ing `.~I. H. BFach as a regular police officer and setting salary. Phillips being present asked the Citr Council regarding a lease on the boat laazding property, --he having bought ~~ti~i-piriert$ morn T~ir. Patterson and the old lease having been cancelled by the council, 'rlhereupon it was moved by Councilman Farber, seconded by Councilman Tavis that the clerk have anew lease dra~.mn up with changes as suggested by both parties, :, motion was carried bit the foilovring vote: Counci]snan Farber Yes " Penrod Yes NOES: None Tavis Yes T~iayor Tarpley Yes .Absent: One Mrs. Geschke being present as reouested at the April 11th meeting, again asked regarding a nursery home on North Lovaell Street. No action by the council. hIa~ror Tarpley at this time staged that he would like the approval of the ap~oointment of Dir. Ted Nelson as a member of the Elsinore Planning Co!nmission to fi 11 the vacancy of the expired term of Jack Coxon. ,Ihereu~oon it was moveddby Councilritan Penrod, seconded by P~Iayor Tarpley that the appointment of t~1r. Paul Jones be appointed as a member of the Planning Conunission, which motion failed to carry by the following vote: Councilman Farber Yes " " Penrod No NOES: Two " " Tavis Yes Mayor Tarpley No Absent: One 'Phereupon there being no objections the matter of the appointment of a member to the Planning CormLission was tabled until Councilman Yarborough -returned from him vacation, lir. Tartikoff being present asked the Council to be allowed to build. out closer to the street than the regular twenty feet set-back, T~1r. Counciltttan Farber was appointed to investigate this matter and report back at next regular meeting. Doyne Stokes, being present asked regarding a franchise for a City Cab Company to be operated by a Corona firm. Sias informed that the City Council was not in favd-r of gr3rtting any franchise at this time and v,~uld issue. license to any one that applied providing their had proper state permit and insurance. The matter of a'lease to P1r. i'lhiseannant for City Beach property brought up and it was decided to fur't'her investigate this as to the type of building that was planned to be built, 'alhereupon it vvas moved by Councilman Tavis, seconded by Councilman Penrod that this matter be tabled, vrhich motion upon vote vans carried. ^lhereupon the .clerk read Orddnance No. 315 for its first reading, an Ordinance for the collection of one-half of one percent sales tax. :jhereupon it tivas moved by Councilman Farber, seconded bar Councilman Penrod that Orainance No. 315 be passed to its second reading, which motion was carried by the following vote: Councilman Farber Yes ~~ ~~ Penrod Yes NOES: None ~~ Tavis Yes Mayor Tarpley Yes Absent: One Building Inspector Di Giacomo read a letter from the Department o£ Public Health vitich stated that, spray material for the spratring of the valley £or knats had beenc;shipped and should arrive in Elsinore during the week.
