was called to order at 7:30 pm with Mayor Morgan presiding9councilman Hu11 ledin them
pledge of Allegiance and salute to the flag of our countryo II
Roll-call found the following councilmem present Johnson Hull Washburn
Nelson and Mayor Morgan,
Clark read the minutes of the meeting of Jan 12th 1953 there being no errors or omission
noted the minutes. were approved as read, f~9
bIr Dave Currie of Currie a ngineering Co and.. Mr Chas Clough of Bebeck & Bkrich being
present were called upon by the ckair to enlighten the couneil'on the subject of
responsibility for electrical trouble which has developed at the sewer plant ceasing
expense to the city both gentlemen spoke at lemght on the subject without offering
any relief to the city or in any way placing responsibility except to point out that.
the switch which apparently was the basic cause of the trouble had been sent to the
manufacturer of the switch panel and if found to be faulty it possibly would be
replaced with a new switcho
Mayor Coppel and four councilmen from PErr1S were present and spoke on the subject o:
both cities making a concerted move to induce the Division of Highways to improve
highway q4 between the two cities9after some discussion it was decided to defer actin
on the matter until suc h time as a succcessor to Mr Lowden has been appointed.
r ~m Mr Claxton and several members of planning commission were present and spoke on the
~ a~ need for adequate zoning ordinance. and maps also introduced NIr Charles H Diggs a
. g~ planning consultant from Laguna Beach who also spoke on the subject and offered to

'.. o° Urork with and advise the commission in the preparation oP ordinance and maps to be
~`£ submitted to the council at a salary of #125.00 per month plus an expense allowance
not to,exceed X20,00 per months On motion by councilman Washburn seconded by Nelson
resolution ~'j62 authorizing. the employment of Nir Diggs at the above salary Rc expense
for a period of Five months was passed by a 5---6 vote,
Mr Cliugh offered for sale 18000 ft of heavy bridge lumber now at the sea~rer plant
at X50,00 per thousand and Mr Soots stating that such material was needed for planne
bridge work it was moved by councilman ?dashburn seconded by Hull that this timber be
purchased motion carried,
Clerk read several communications among which was a letter from Mr Karnes of High Sc
stating that high school board had passed a resolution endorsing the establishment o
an anchitectual divisauon within the state board of education, and sugggesting that
the council take simular actonyalso read a petition of residents reeuesting that
one block of Pottery street between E Hill and Adobe streets be blacktoppedyand ate'
a petition for an additional street light near the alley between 311y & 316 N Lowell
clerk instructed to write both pairties that the city was not able. to comply at this
time but would consider the matter when necessary Rands were available,

It was moved by Washbairn seconded by Johnson that A G Barber be paid
compensate him for the six days vacation not used on account of sickness preventing
Judge Root from acting as city judge during a part of his vacation. Carried

Clerk read ordinance ~3k2 regualteimg the operation of junk yards and simular outdoor
establishments for-the first reading which ordinance was passed to the. second reading
by the following vote~Johnson: Hu11: ?~Tashburn:Nelson and Mayor Morgan Yes, Noesnone
Mr Soots re ested ermission to ' ',

on the grader tires to be opened at the next meeting 2-pr hip boots !~-bbls bisto mul
and 1 rear spring for the international trucks on mo~ion by councilman Johnson seconded
by ATelson other purchase was authorized.
Clerk requested permission to purchase following office suplies~5000 cards for water
bi11s~500 treasurer receipts~1000 lard; envelopes & 500 purning permits for fire dept
On. motion by councilman Nelson seconded by Johnson purchase was authorized,
Mr Soots suggested that since Granite street has been improved a stop sign is needed
on Flint street to control traffic entering the intersection from Granite Sty it was ~
moved by councilman Washburn seconded by Nelson that resolution #~'j63 authorizing this
sign be passed which upon vote was carried,
It was moved by councilman Washburn seconded by mayor Morgan that bills as audited by
the committee be approved and warrants drawn to pay same~mption carried
NQ ~On motion bycouncilman Johnson seconded by Nelson meeting adjourned at 11:00 pm
