CRACK SEALER MACHINE
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to sign and issue a
purchase order for the amount of $36,510.73 to Crafco for the purchase of a Super Shot
125 Diesel Metter Crack Sealer.
Background
The city hired an outside contractor approximately 8 years ago for crack sealing. Cracks
in the streets are caused either by thermal stresses or by fatigue from repeated traffic
loading. Most potholes and pavement failures are caused by water damage entering the
base and sub - grade, through cracks that have not been sealed with asphalt or similar
material. This can cause potholes to develop rapidly and lead to more severe pavement
failures if left unsealed.
Discussion
As part of an overall pavement management system this machine will be used to
establish an annual preventative maintenance program for crack sealing of City streets.
Crack sealing can be done faster and at a lower cost per square foot than other types of
pavement treatments. City staff will be able to work on more streets per year using this
approach. By shifting to crack- sealing work, the City will have less costly street repairs.
Therefore, staff solicited quotes from: Crafco, Seal Master and Cimline.

Pavement Preservation Products Restocking Policy
Crafco will only accept the return of products that have been authorized in writing In advance. To obtain authorization contact your customer service representative. A written authorization
will be fazed or emalied to you. Acopy of the RETURN AUTHORIZATION must accompany the material being returned.
Not all products are returnable. Products that have a shelf life or are considered made to order or special order may not be returned. No used parts may be returned.
All returns are subject to restocking charges.
All products returned must be In the original packaging and be in good and salable condition. Crafco reserves the right to charge repackaging charges In addition to restocking charges.

Ed Shockley from Cimline asked me to send you a quote for the following melter applicator.
Cimline Magma 150 gallon DH .................. $46,882.00
This price includes engine cover and freight charges.
Standard options : 1) Automatic or manual operation.
2) Lowest loading height of all melters
3) Heat tip time 1 hr or less.
4) Electrically heated hose.
Options: Arrow board, Strobe light ( single or dual ), 70 CFM compressor with hose reel.
Note: San Diego County just purchased two of the Cimline 230 gal.melter applicators with
heated hoses and compressor units.
