HUNCO WAY PAVEMENT OVERLAY

Recommendations
1. Accept the improvements into the City Maintained System
2. Approve Final Contract Change Order No. 3 in the amount of - $9,116.15
3. Direct staff to file the Notice of Completion with the County Recorder
4. Direct staff to release all retention monies 35 days after the filing of the Notice
of Completion
Background
On April 10, 2013, at 2:00 pm the City requested informal bids from four contractors to
perform the requested work. The informal bids were opened publically on May 2, 2013,
at 2:00 pm. The City received 3 bids from qualified contractors to construct the Hunco
Way Pavement overlay in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. Prior
to the May 14, 2013 City Council awarded the construction contract to Lee and Stires,
Inc. The existing pavement condition on Hunco Way had some isolated areas of
pavement failure and block cracking; these areas were repaired in preparation for the
placement of the final lift of asphalt. A damaged and settled commercial drive approach
was removed and replaced to insure proper drainage. The project also included the
installation of a metal beam guard rail at the terminus of Hunco Way with reflective
markers on both sides. Lee and Stires, Inc. completed the improvements and change
order work according to the approved plans and specification on June 20, 2013.
