BACKGROUND: The following provides a summary of the Lake, Parks & Recreation Department's programs, activities and events for July 2013: Administration Department Manager attended the second Regional Family Youth & Health Task Force meeting held on June 20th at the City of Murrieta. The keynote speaker 'was Melissa Donaldson, a prominent expert on youth and violence. She has worked in the field of Social Services for nearly 30 years and, since 2001, has been the Executive Director for Safe Alternatives For Everyone (S.A.F.E.), a nonprofit agency providing services for children, youth and families throughout Riverside County who have experienced, or are at risk of, abuse and violence. Recreation Summer Program s • Swim lesson attendance for the month of June was 1,992. Public swim attendance was 1,141. • Day Camp excursions for the month of June featured the Police Station, Skate Park and Mulligan's. Special Events in July • 7/4-4 th of July Fireworks — T- Peninsula area of the levee • 7/6 — Free Fishing Day — No fishing license required • 7/10- Movies in the Park- Summerlake Park • 7/12 - Free Family Swim Night - Lakeside High School Pool 7/12 - Recreation Expo - Lake Community Center 7/19 - Summer Nights at the Park — Canyon Hills Community Park • 7/20 - Al Fresco Music /Dance & Live Art — City Park • 7/24 - Movies in the Park — Summerlake Park • 7/26 - Free Family Swim Night — Lakeside High School Pool Upcoming Special Events for August: • 8/2- Summer Nights in the Park — Rosetta Canyon Park • 8/2- Free Family Swim Day — Lakeside High School • 8/7- Movies in the Park — Summerlake Park 8/22- Mayor's State of the City Address — Diamond Club 8/24- Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club Contest — Inlet Channel Terra Cotta Gym & Lake Community Center_ Total attendance for the month of June was 5,457 with 1,443 customer service calls. Skate Park Facility The Skate Park had 5 rentals in the month of June. Total attendance of BMX, Skateboarders and Scooters was 519 and 33 new waivers were signed. Senior Center Attendance: Monthly attendance / service contacts for June totaled 3,227, with 20 days of service, which was a daily average 161 for the month. • Publications: The July newsletter is currently available at the center and online, highlighting the activities for July. Cool Center Activation: The Center was activated June 27 -28, July 1 -5, & 8 -10 thus far this summer. The Heat Warning is announced when it is estimated to be 97 degrees or higher for 3 or more days. We provide a cool place for seniors, with refreshments and activities provided to those who come to the Center. We document participation at the Center for the Community Action Partnership of Riverside County during these days of activation and provide in -kind service documentation at the conclusion of the season. • Trips: Over fifty participants will travel to Alpine for a trip to Viejas Casino on July 18th. The Mission Inn Tour trip was so popular that a second trip is scheduled for July 29, and the Walkers will be traveling to Live Oak County Park in Fallbrook on July 31. Nutrition & Events: The center served 501 lunches in June, which resulted in an overage of 41 lunches above the allocated 460 lunches for the month. Although we have not yet received a bill, we will be responsible for approximately $216 to subsidize the overage. On July 5th EVMWD provided a special FREE Picnic of Hot Dogs & Hamburgers with all the trimmings. The Center had a very successful Ice Cream Social on July 3rd with 31 participants; Walgreens donated the Ice Cream for the event. Walgreens also provided water, sunscreen & lotion for our Walkers trips, and a gift certificate as a door prize for our Patriotic Picnic. The Patriotic Picnic on July 10th had 48 participants. Programs: The Craft Corner coordinator, Rose McDonald has returned from her 2 month vacation and will re- institute the program at the Center. It is very popular however the substitute became ill and was unable to continue it in Rose's absence. The Cholesterol, Blood Sugar & Blood Pressure Screening will be conducted on July 16, provided by Prime Care, and attorney Anita Cheek - Milner will provide a Basic Estate Workshop on July 22. Rae Ann Ramshaw will be back on July 30th for a $7 Haircut fundraiser. Two Computer classes, Basic I& Basic I I will be conducted July 22 & 29th, and Cal Fresh Healthy Eating Tips, "Quick Healthy Lunch" will be provided on July 24th. Caltrans is currently reviewing documents for approval. Supplemental Agreement with Caltrans scheduled for City Council Approval on July 23, 2013 CITY HALL • Work is completed on the seismic shear wall installation • Interior wall and wall modifications are completed • New roofing is completed • All wall finishes are completed • Fire Department is reviewing the Fire Sprinkler underground The remaining work for completion of the City Hall Facility is as follows: • Approval of underground fire sprinkler system required from EVMWD - Installation of Fire Sprinkler system • Final Cleaning of City Hall facility after installation of the fire sprinkler system CULTURAL CENTER • New basement wall Sidewalk Improvements SB -821 Traffic Signal Street Improvements Lake Elsinore Traffic Calming Project Elm Street Pavement Rehabilitation Proposed Projects Heald Avenue, Sumner Avenue, Mill Street Riverside Drive @ Grand Avenue foundations system are 100% completed • New basement concrete shear wall completed • Seismic ties in the attic are 75% completed • Structural steel columns delivered final installation not completed - Rough carpentry in attic space is 75% complete. • Hold downs are 50% complete. The 95% design submittal was received on June 14, 100% 2013. Final plan check corrections sent on 7/15/13; mylars requested. Contract documents scheduled to be out for bid on 8/8/13. Right -of -way certification o has been completed; 65 /o preliminary design is 65% complete. Contract documents for bid under review; Staff Summerhill Drive Slurry Seal Collier Median Island Modification Summerhill 100% Drive Collier Avenue 100% anticipates the project out for bid by July 31, 2013. Project is currently bidding with a bid opening scheduled for July 18, 2013. Bid award tentatively scheduled for Council on August 13, 2013. Pre - Design meeting was held on July 17, 2013.
