Thanks. Nico Melendez Thank you for the opportunity to provide a written comment I am a 22 -year veteran of the United States Navy and would ask that no changes be made to the proposed design or site of the city's veteran's memorial. I trust the ad hoc committee who proposed the site represent a wide range of veterans and offered their proposal on behalf of all veterans, including me. To eliminate a historical depiction of a solider from last century is akin to the City of Lake Elsinore suggesting the final resting place of thousands of lost soldiers, sailors, Marines, Coasties and Airmen doesn't exist. I've had the honor of visiting the final resting place of thousands of Americans lost in war at cemeteries around the globe, cemeteries managed by the American Battle Monuments Commission. In fact, the ABMC administers, operates, and maintains 24 permanent American burial grounds on foreign soil. Presently there are 124,905 U.S. war dead interred at these cemeteries from World War I, World War 11 and Mexican War. Each resting place of these American heroes has either a Star of David or Cross. Using the Cross and Star of David to honor the final resting place of approximately 125,000 war dead overseas as thisproposed image does on the City of Lake Elsinore Veterans Memorial is not only appropriate but accurate. As to the location, I believe those same war dead overseas would like to be in a more main stream location, so more of our country and more of our youth can understand the price of freedom. There is no better place in this city for a veterans memorial than a place that will experience high traffic volume and an opportunity for families to learn, teach, explain and educate. Please have the courage to stand for these war dead, as they had the courage to stand for you. Thank you.
