HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem No.12CITY OF LAKE ELSINORE REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Ron Molendyk, City Manager DATE: December 14, 1993 SUBJECT: CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 FOR GRAHAM AVENUE LANDSCAPE PROJECT The construction contract for the Graham Avenue Landscape project was awarded to the Gali Landscape and Maintenance Company on March 23, 1993 for $51,352.00. On May 11, 1993 City Council authorized Change Order No. 1 which increased the contract amount by $28,751.00. Change Order No. 1 was required to accommodate the addition of 10 vacant parcels to the list of parcels to be landscaped and irrigated along Graham Avenue. When the contract was originally awarded the City only contemplated landscaping -and irrigating developed parcels. The addition of the vacant parcels would provide for complete landscaping and irrigation improvements along Graham Avenue from Langstaff Street to Mohr Street. Change Order No. 2 will result in the removal and replacement of two deteriorated irrigation lines that were'not known during the decision process. These irrigation lines needed to be removed and replaced before they failed. The total cost for change order No. 2 is $750.00. ANALYSIS During construction it was determined that two irrigation lines were deteriorated and needed replacing. Replacing these lines during the construction phase will enable the City to realize a significant cost saving. If these lines were not replaced they would probable fail in the near future resulting in a higher cost for removal and replacement. The cost for replacing the irrigation lines also included the removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk. FISCAL IMPACT Below is a summary of the Landscape Project: CIP Project Budget Contract Amount Amount of Change Order Amount of Change Order Revised Contract Amount Total Project Cost project costs for the Graham Avenue $90,000.00 51,352.00 No. 1 28,751.00 No. 2 750.00 64,053.00 $80,503.00 * Change Order No. 1 includes $16,800 in charges for the purchase of three water meters. Since the water meters will directly benefit the property owners, the City has the option to put a future development condition on the property. When the property develops the City can require the property owners to reimburse the City for the cost of the water meter. The property owners are already required to take over the cost of watering and maintaining the landscaping in the parkway area adjacent to their parcel: c: \wp57 \does \tim \a9Hda\Bramscap.rpt / / / '0y AGENDA ITEM //NO. d PAGE OF I Mayor and City Council December 14, 1993 Page 2 RECOMMENDATION 1.
