REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Ron Molendyk, City Manager
DATE: October 26, 1993
SUBJECT: Appropriation of Funds for
Change Order Number 1 to
San Jacinto River Channel Project
BACKGROUND
The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Lake Elsinore is re-
constructing the Lakeshore Drive bridge over the San Jacinto River
Channel. In order to build the bridge, the San Jacinto River
Channel must be constructed to its ultimate width.
A contract to construct the San Jacinto River Channel was awarded
to American Contracting, Inc. on August 16, 1993, in the amount of
$988,999.50.
Ayers Development constructed a large storm drain in Lakeshore
Drive during the summer of 1993 to carry storm waters from the
Ayers Tract near Mill Street to the San Jacinto River Channel. The
storm drain line opens into the side of the San Jacinto River
Channel immediately south of the Lakeshore Drive bridge. The storm
drain pipe concrete headwall structure, which protects the side of
the Channel from erosion, was deferred and not constructed because
the channel sides were not constructed.
American Contracting is constructing the channel walls as part of
their contract. Therefore, they should complete the storm drain
line by constructing the headwall structure in the channel wall.
Original Award $ 988,999.50
Change Order No. 1 29,500.00
Total Award $1,018,499,50
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of the headwall structure was carefully determined and
negotiated with American Contracting, Inc. An agreement was
reached at $29,500. These funds exist in the dedicated Storm Drain
Fund established by storm drain deposits from developers.
RECOMMENDATION
Appropriate $29,500.00, from the Drainage Fund to the Lake Elsinore
Redevelopment Agency, to cover an increase in the contract amount
with American Contracting, in order to construct the headwall
structure of the Ayers storm drain.
