HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem No.BWHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lake Elsinore does choose to recognize acts of outstanding community service; and WHEREAS, on February 28, 1992, a deputy from the Sheriff's Department of the Lake Elsinore Station did respond to a bank in Lake Elsinore to investigate a report that someone was attempting to cash a stolen check and upon arriving and determining that a crime had occurred, the deputy.started to arrest the suspect. The suspect resisted and a fight ensued. The deputy could not restrain the suspect nor could he break away to radio the for assistance; and WHEREAS, Mr. Chester Roberts saw the suspect fighting with the deputy and retrieved the deputy's hand -held radio and calmly reported the situation and location to other Sheriff's units in the area. Shortly thereafter, back -up units arrived and safely subdued the suspect. NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lake Elsinore on this 23rd day of February, 1993, do hereby recognize Mr. Chester Roberts for his willingness to help an officer engaged in serious confrontation and did become involved resulting in the safe apprehension of a criminal and insuring that the deputy received assistance prior to suffering possible injury. Further, the Mayor and City Council on behalf of the all the citizens of the City of Lake Elsinore wish to commend Mr. Chester Roberts for his courage and willingness to act in the face of danger. ITEM, NO.t_L—_ i • / WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lake Elsinore does choose to recognize acts of outstanding community service; and WHEREAS, On April 4, 1992, Mr. Charles Wyman walked into a convenience store in Lakeland Village just after the store had been robbed by a man with a knife. Mr. Wyman walked in just as the suspect ran out and the store clerk yelled that he had just been robbed. Without consideration for personal safety, Mr. Wyman pursued and tackled the suspect a short distance away. Mr. Wyman then held the suspect until deputies arrived. Subsequent investigation showed that the suspect had committed seven other convenience store robberies during the previous three weeks. NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lake Elsinore on this 23rd day of February, 1993, do hereby recognize Mr. Charles Wyman for his selfless service and courage in coming to the aid of the store clerk. His courageous actions resulted in the capture of a dangerous felon who would have continued to prey on the community. Further, the Mayor and City Council on behalf of the all the citizens of the City of Lake Elsinore wish to commend Mr. Charles Wyman for his courage and willingness to act in the face of danger.
