EVANS INTERIM CITY MANAGER DATE: AUGUST 14, 2412 SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF CONTRACT FOR EXCEL LANDSCAPE Recommendation Staff recommends that the Mayor and City Council authorize the Interim City Manager to execute a maintenance contract agreement with Excel Landscape Inc. to extend their existing contract providing streetscape maintenance for a period not to extend beyond October 31, 2012. There is no rate increase associated with the extension of this contract. Background City of Lake Elsinore is responsible for maintaining the landscaping that is encompassed in the street right-of-way. Because of the amount of maintenance work this job entails, the City contracts with vendors who have the personnel and equipment to provide the level of effort needed to keep up with the workload. Discussion Staff has been working with Excel Landscape under this contract since 2004 and they have provided quality work in the form of neatness and responsiveness throughout their contract. Staff is working to solicit proposals for the continuation of the landscape work however, the efforts were met with delays in the requirements for bonding provided by the vendor. The details of bonding. requirements have been resolved and staff will be requesting proposals by the end of the month. Because of the timing of the request for proposals, staff will be bringing the new contract recommendation to Council at their regularly scheduled meeting on October 23, 2012. Staff is requesting that the City Council approve the extension to Excel Landscape's contract not to exceed October 31, 2012. This time will continue landscape maintenance services while staff advertises, collects and open the new proposals.
