SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF CERTAIN COUNCIL MEETING DATES
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve the cancellation of the regular
City Council meeting dates of September 11, tJctober 9, November 27, and
December 2~, 2012.
Discussion
Many governmental agencies "go dark" throughout the year and more specifically
during the holidays. Last year, this Council voted to cancel two meetings dates
during the holidays. It is proposed that Council consider going dark again this year at certain designated meeting dates. The proposed dates are September
11, October 9, November 27, and December 25, 2012.
Due to the retrofit of the Cultural Center, it has been arranged for the regularly
scheduled City Council meetings to be held at the EVMwD Board Chambers at
the cost of $13O per hour. It is anticipated that schedule will go into effect during
the last few months of this year. In an effork to reduce the costs associated with
the renting of the off-site meeting location, staff is proposing that Council approve
the cancellation of one of the regularly scheduled meeting dates during the
months of September, C~etober, November and December. CJn September 11,
the Interim City Manager will be on vacation and unable to attend the meeting;
actober 9 falls immediately after the Columbus Day holiday in which City Hallrs
closed; November 27 falls immediately following the Thanl~sgiving holiday; and,
December 25 is a state mandated holiday in which City Hall is closed. Typically,
staff goes on vacation during the holidays and business slows down therefore it
is being suggested that Council consider cancelling the proposed meeting dates.
Should an emergency occur a Special meeting can be called with only 24 hours
posting notice to the public in order to address any City basin
