Consider up the Hewlett-Packard Stora Area Network S (SANS)
Solution to increase data stora capacit and increase protection a loss of
critical data.

The Cit di data stora resides on an HP MSA 1500 Stora Area Network
S (SANS) with 3 Terab ( T13) of disk stora purchased in 2008. Implementin
the SANS successfull reduced wasted data stora on each server and resolved the
inabilit to share excess stora space with other s in the network. The SANS is
an inte part in the s architecture b supportin enterprise wide applications
data stora needs for Document Mana S (DMS), GIS, Relational
Databases and Virtualization.
The HP MSA 1500 is in need of replacement for the followin reasons:
• It has reached its 4 y ear lifec
* HP no lon manufactures this hardware and replacement parts are limited
• We have reached 98% capacit of usable hard drive space.
Information Technolo Division has selected to replace the HP MSA 1500 with a HP
MSA 2000 which includes 6 TB data stora capacit and a backup tape librar device.
All HP purchased hardware receives a 5 y ear warrant and 24/7 support.

Fiscal Impact
The purchase price is $51,832.98, includin tax and installation, as shown in the
attached q uote (Exhibit A). Sufficient fundin was approved at the mid- bud
review in April 2012 for the 2012-2016 CIP, project ID No. GEN 0063 (Exhibit B).
Consistent with the Cit practice of makin information technolo purchases under
the California Municipal Awards Schedule (CMAS), Hewlett Packard (HP) hardware
q ualifies for purchase under the state and local g overnment CMAS or WSCA pricin
schedule.
Both CMAS and Western States Contract Alliance (WSCA) pricin ensures competitive
pricin at Government Services Administration (GSA) rates. HP's 5 y ear warrant
service also helps keep the Cit cost of repairs and maintenance down.
This purchase is exempt from the Cit purchasin polic re informal bids
because it is in the best interest of the Cit to use CMAS or WSCA g overnment pricin
for information technolo purchases.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Cit Council waive the informal-biddin process and
authorize the Interim Cit Mana to si and issue a purchase order for the amount of
$51,832.98 to Nth Generation Computin Inc., a HP certified vendor, to ac and
install the SANS device.

The SANs is the Cit data stora foundation for all Windows File Servers and Database applications. The MSAI 500 was purchased in Januar 2008
and is comin up on it's 4 y ear lifec schedule. The MSA 1500 is no lon manufactured and replacement parts will become increasel difficult to
find. Man future Cit applications like VMWare's Server Failover product and Sun Enterprise OneSolution product will re the up to the
MSA 2000 to increase s reliabilit and efficiencies.
