Discussion Staff researched conductin the fireworks show on both Jul 4 th (Wednesda and alternativel on June 30th (Saturda to coincide with a proposed Grand Openin Celebration of the new Boat Launch Facilit Staff found that a fireworks show on Jul 4 th Will cost several thousand dollars more than the alternative date of June 30th Furthermore, g iven Jul 4 th falls on a Wednesda this midweek fireworks show ma not be advanta for widespread viewin b boaters, campers and workin families. The Cit new Boat Launch Facilit is currentl scheduled for completion b June 20, 2012. Staff would su havin a soft openin of the Boat Launch immediatel upon completion to put an finishin touches on the new facilit and g ain experience with operations, then have the Cit host a Grand Openin Celebration Da on Saturda June 30th This da celebration could start with a dedication ceremon featurin boat demos and assorted vendors, then end the da with a Fourth of Jul Holida Fireworks Show. The Boat Launch Facilit dedication would be a true Red, White & Blue spectacular event. Given the purchase of fireworks services is uni staff b the normal bid procedure of advertisin in the local newspaper and contacted q ualified contractors directl for q uotes. AGENDA ITEM 14 Pa 1 of 12 Fourth of Jul Holida Fireworks Show April 24, 2012 Pa 2 Staff contacted four (4) fireworks companies but onl received q uotes from two Fireworks America, located in Lakeside, California will provide a total of 2,430 shell (includin #52 6-inch) at a cost of $20,000. P Spectaculars, located in Rialt • 1 0 California, will; provide a total • 1,883 shells (includin #43 5-inch also at a cost • i $20,000. Althou both companies submitted q uotes for $20,000, Fireworks America tifferin a packa at a g reater value. In contrast, should the Cit choose to have the fireworks displa on Jul 4th, Fireworks America will provide a total of 1,790 shells (no 6-inch at a cost of $20,000, if the show is fired from the dirt lot across from the Stadium (this same exact show would be 25% less if held the weekend before the 4th). P Spectaculars' show will have a total of 782 shells (#1 10 -inch and #6 6-inch) at a cost of $33,000 if shot off of the levee.
