SUBJECT: ARBORIST ASSESSMENT AND TREE MAINTENANCE AT CITY
CAMPGROUND FACILITY
The camp facilit located at 32040 Riverside Drive is owned b the Cit and
operated b the concessionaire, P Enterprises. The camp contains
a lar number of mature trees. Man of these trees are taller than sixt feet in
hei and man other trees are in poor condition. Trees that are over or
diseased pose a potential liabilit to the health and welfare of visitors. The Cit as
the underl propert owner, has an inherent liabilit risk for maintainin these
trees.
Discussion
As a risk mana and beautification measure, Staff re West Coast
Arborist, the Cit contract tree service compan to provide a professional
assessment of the trees at the camp As part of the assessment, the
Arborist provided an inventor that included tree location, species identification,
trunk diameter classification, hei classification and recommended maintenance.
The tree inventor was completed on April 15. The arborist's recommended
maintenance includes removal of 34 trees, removal of 93 stumps and g rid prunin
of 414 trees.
Fiscal Impact
Approval of this item will result in an expenditure of $30,858.60. On April 1 0th, the
Cit Council approved an expenditure of $70,000 from the unallocated revenue
fund for LERA Camp Tree Improvements as part of the Mid Year Bud
review. In the near future, Cit Staff will brin to the Council a proposal to
transplant a number of at risk Canar Islands Palms located throu the Cit
for plantin at the Camp
